Persona 6 announced, and the vibes are a lot closer to Persona 3 so far
Persona 6 is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC
Persona 6 is real, folks. Atlus announced it during today's Xbox Games Showcase live stream, and it was by far the thinnest announcement of the entire show.
The trailer is a dreary shot of a graveyard punctuated with a neon green "P6" logo, and that's about it. At least we have platforms to go on: Xbox Series X, PS5, and PC (Steam).
That's genuinely it for now. We have no release date, no characters (though some purported leaks would disagree), not even themes. But as of today, Persona 6 is a real, official, in-development JRPG to look forward to.
The trailer blurb reads: "The highly anticipated next chapter of the iconic RPG series delivers a bold, new standalone story blending heartfelt daily life and new characters with pulse-pounding, supernatural adventure. Whether it's your first Persona game or you've been here since the beginning, this one's for you."
To interrogate the trailer itself a little more closely, the vibes appear closer to the likes of Persona 3, the darkest of the modern installments. Persona 4 Revival, also shown during today's show, is a bundle of pop, and Persona 5 has jazz in its blood – not what I'd play at a graveyard.
About a minute in, right before the big P6 logo crashes down, a series of rapid cuts displays a message with broken lettering: "WHO ARE YOU". This could be another Persona-standard riff on identity and the self, or it could tie into a larger, more unique plot point of Persona 6. For now, we can only speculate.
Persona 4 Revival finally gets a release date, and boy does it look good
