Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight's Metacritic score makes it the best-rated Lego game ever, knocking The Skywalker Saga off its perch after 4 years

Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight has the honor of being the highest-rated Lego game of all time, as far as Metacritic is concerned.

Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight currently sits at a metascore of 84 after 47 reviews, which places it two points above the previous record holder, which was none other than Traveler's Tales' previous game, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga (with Lego Star Wars 2: The Original Trilogy holding the record for 16 years before that).

In fact, of those 47 reviews, only four are deemed 'Mixed' by Metacritic's standards, with no 'Negative' scores to be seen. Plus, those 'Mixed' scores consist of four 7/10 scores, which is hardly a bad score at all. Of course, this average has a chance to go down when the Switch 2 version releases later this year, but for now, Batman is on top.

In the GamesRadar+ Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight review, US Managing Editor Rollin Bishop gave it four stars out of five and said: "Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight remixes classic stories and games to provide a single straightforward explanation for who Batman is, how he came to be, and where he and his extended found family has ultimately found themselves – without taking itself too seriously. Condiment King appears more than once, and you get to use Batman's shark repellent."

The Skywalker Saga and Legacy of the Dark Knight have been the first games in the rebooted era of Lego games, where the developers are breaking out of the original format to make games that feel like proper adventures in these franchises, as opposed to reskins of their previous formula. Skywalker Saga blended third-person shooter and action game elements, while Lego Batman is effectively the Arkham series in Lego form, and the scores make it clear the pivot has gone well for many.
