The leading lady of God of War Laufey may not be a one-off protagonist. While God of War 2018 director Cory Barlog has assured players that the series will, "always tell stories about Kratos," that doesn't mean Faye's standalone game will be the last of its kind.
That comes from Laufey director Ariel Lawrence, who told GameSpot that Faye is a character she thinks, "we can keep telling stories about." This comes at the end of a larger response about the differences between Kratos and Faye's thematic journeys. Lawrence notes that Faye, "has a similar journey in front of her, maybe with slightly different beginnings."
God of War 2018 started the Norse saga for Kratos, which has spanned two games so far. If Lawrence believes that Faye isn't too different from her husband then it stands to reason there is plenty of potential for her arc to cover more than just what we will see in God of War Laufey. The story of Faye's game will also run parallel to the 2018 reboot and it's sequel, Ragnarök, with fans already theorizing on how the games will overlap.
In the same interview Lawrence states that Barlog, "always knew how important Faye was," to the future of God of War. In many ways it feels like God of War Laufey is just the beginning for the character. Even if Faye does not get a second game, her presence in the ongoing story of Kratos and Atreus means she will likely show up in the future in one form or another. The excitement surrounding Laufey also shows that audiences are ready for stories in the God of War universe that leave Kratos on the sidelines, even if only for a moment.
