Capcom is celebrating Dragon's Dogma 2's second anniversary by seemingly teasing that something is on the way for the action RPG.
2024's best game, Dragon's Dogma 2, was Capcom's major release for that year, and what would turn out to be Devil May Cry lead and Dragon's Dogma creator Hideaki Itsuno's last project at Capcom before leaving in August 2024. Given that the original Dragon's Dogma had the beloved Dark Arisen expansion release around a year later, many were hoping its sequel would receive something similar, and even though Itsuno left, Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen director Kento Kinoshita is still at Capcom, so hope wasn't entirely lost. But two years of radio silence was enough to kill that hope, except that Capcom is now seemingly teasing something.
To celebrate the second anniversary of the game, Capcom released Dragon's Dogma 2 artwork onto the game's Twitter account. And while it may at first seem like fairly innocuous artwork celebrating the game's anniversary, fans spotted some interesting details. Most notable is a note on a table in the photo that uses the alphabet of Gransys (the region found in the original game) saying, "Sightings of griffins flying in from the northern region of Organ have been confirmed." The northern region is an area inaccessible in the original game, however it is mentioned multiple times in notes throughout the world.
Also seen is a figure bathed in blue light facing away from the camera with a hairstyle and clothing not found in the main game. This character is surrounded by all of the Maisters of each vocation in the game, so some have taken this to mean there could be a new vocation added in a potential DLC expansion.
Coincidentally, Capcom and GameSir just announced a Dragon's Dogma 2-themed Xbox controller releasing today. Again, it could be nothing, but it seems odd for a collab controller to drop years later for a series that isn't massive enough to get regular merch drops the way Monster Hunter or Street Fighter does.
Basically, what I'm saying is the copium is back.
Capcom wants to build Devil May Cry into a "core IP" like Resident Evil and Monster Hunter.
