The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has announced the voice of surprise character inclusion Fox McCloud of the Star Fox video game franchise, and the actor behind the iconic space pilot couldn't be more perfect. Fox will be voiced by none other than rising superstar Glen Powell of Top Gun: Maverick fame.
Powell's got the presence and the charisma to take on the dashing Fox McCloud, and he's even got his background as a fighter pilot in Top Gun to bring to the role. In other words, Powell as Fox seems like a slam dunk for the upcoming animated sequel. He announced his casting via his Instagram, as seen below:

Fox McCloud is a fan favorite, and his sudden reveal as a part of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has delighted Nintendo lovers. Part of what's so exciting about it is how Fox's inclusion opens the door to other beloved Nintendo properties like Kirby or Samus Aran from Metroid.
Personally, they'd have me hook, line, and sinker if Captain N showed up, especially if he was played by an actual human. If you're not old as dirt like me, you may not recall Captain N, the hero of his own Nintendo themed cartoon in which a kid from the real world is transported into the digital world to team up with other video game heroes like Mega Man and Simon Belmont.
Maybe The Super Mario Galaxy Movie won't go quite that deep-cut, but Star Fox is already an extra cool addition to the film, which spans numerous different worlds from across the Mario franchise.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie releases in theaters on April 1. For everything else coming soon, check out our guide to all the upcoming movies in 2026 and beyond.
