It's been rough going these last few years for Bloodborne fans, with hopes for a remake or remaster repeatedly dashed and, with the recent closure of Demon's Souls remake studio Bluepoint Games, buried six feet underground. That said, the recently revealed Bloodborne animated movie is a moment to "celebrate a win," in the words of YouTuber Seán "Jacksepticeye" McLoughlin, who's producing the flick.
The sting of Bluepoint's closure was made all the more bitter when a report surfaced in February claiming the studio had pitched FromSoftware a Bloodborne remake, but was turned down. The game studio is known for its excellent remakes and remasters, and Bloodborne seems such a natural fit after the success of Demon's Souls on PS5, but alas, for now we'll have to settle for the animated adaptation. We still don't know much about it beyond McLoughlin's involvement, but the YouTube creator is nonetheless grateful that there's movement in the IP at all.
"I'm just super excited that anything Bloodborne is being talked about or being mentioned again in 2026," McLoughlin told Radio Times Gaming at the BAFTA Games Awards. "Especially after people heard news of Bluepoint getting shut down, which is awful, and Sony saying they wanted to do a remake, but FromSoft didn't really want to do it because they want to do it themselves, and different things like that. So I think people were very sad about anything Bloodborne related, so now I'm like, 'here, let's celebrate a win.'"
Article continues belowMcLoughlin's involvement in the Bloodborne movie was something of a controversy, and the creator has gone to some lengths to assure fans he's there in good faith. After publishing a whole video expressing his adoration for the game and clarifying that he's only producing the movie, not directing or writing it, he explained in a recent interview that his role is to help ensure that the "tone, vibe, and atmosphere" of the FromSoft classic remains intact. He's also said he's feeling "all the pressure in the world" to satisfy the sometimes "intense" fans of the game, so maybe let's give the guy the benefit of the doubt until we see the movie ourselves.
Here's hoping Bloodborne joins the ranks of the best video game movies ever made.

After earning an English degree from ASU, I worked as a corporate copy editor while freelancing for places like SFX Magazine, Screen Rant, Game Revolution, and MMORPG on the side. I got my big break here in 2019 with a freelance news gig, and I was hired on as GamesRadar's west coast Staff Writer in 2021. That means I'm responsible for managing the site's western regional executive branch, AKA my home office, and writing about whatever horror game I'm too afraid to finish.
