The Call of Duty movie is set in the Modern Warfare universe
The Call of Duty movie has been confirmed to be set in the Modern Warfare universe.
The news comes from Fanatics Fest, courtesy of Variety, and it was revealed by director/co-writer Peter Berg.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare brought the franchise forward from World War 2 to the present day for the first time, and it revolved around conflict in Russia and the Middle East.
At the moment, nothing is known about what the film might be about, as plot details are shrouded in secrecy.
Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan is also onboard the project to write and produce, and the film hails from Paramount. The studio, along with Activision, have previously said the film is "designed to thrill its massive global fan base by delivering on the hallmarks of what fans love about the iconic series, while boldly expanding the franchise to entirely new audiences."
At CinemaCon, Rob Kostich, president of Activision, also teased: "We want to make sure that the authenticity of it is captured on a human level so that it feels really real and infuse that with epic scope."
However, eyebrows were raised when old comments from Berg resurfaced. "Pathetic. Pathetic. Keyboard courage. Can't stand it. The only people that I give a Call of Duty get-out-of-jail-free card to is the military," he said in a 2013 interview. "They're out there serving and they're bored and they want to entertain themselves? Okay, maybe. Kids? Uh-uh."
