Electronic Arts will co-publish the free-form warzone blast Mercenaries 2: World in Flames with developer Pandemic, with the Venezuelan-set sequel heading for an exclusive PS3 launch, perhaps around Christmas time this year.
As with Half-Life 2, which EA co-publishes with Valve, the agreement will see Electronic Arts bring the game to store shelves, while Pandemic retains ownership of the Mercenaries name and development tech.
Despite the announced PS3 exclusivity, it's more than possible that Mercenaries 2 will invade 360. Demo videos of early code show testers playing the game using a 360 controller, and as we all know EA is always keen on straddling the max number of platforms for each game. Though in this case it would be Pandemic calling the shots - if they don't want to move off from PS3, it probably won't happen.
We've been on the hunt for new info on Mercs 2 ever since our eyes were blown out the back of our heads by the first action footage. With EA now running the public face of the game, we at last have a concrete target to aim our interest at - expect to see lots more on this exciting next-gen sequel soon.
