Danny Boyle has revealed that a Trainspotting sequel is still very much on the cards, with the director telling Deadline that the project is next up on his to-do list. What’s more, the script is apparently already in good shape, with the core cast of the original film all lined up to return.
"All the four main actors want to come back and do it," says Boyle. "Now it is only a matter of getting all their schedules together which is complicated by two of them doing American TV series." That would be a reference to Johnny Lee Miller and Robert Carlyle, who are committed to Elementary and Once Upon A Time respectively.
Returning screenwriter John Hodge has adapted his screenplay from author Irvine Welsh’s follow-up novel, Porno, which sees the action relocated to Amsterdam, where Renton has set up a new life for himself after ripping off the rest of the gang at the end of the first film. No dates have been confirmed for the sequel, but if Boyle is to be believed, it may be on the way sooner rather than later…
