What’s that rumbling noise you can hear in the distance? That’s the sound of yet another reboot clunking into gear, with casting rumours gathering pace ahead of the upcoming reimagining of Stephen King’s Carrie .
MGM are in the process of remaking Brian De Palma’s well-received adaptation, with confirmation arriving this morning that the project will be headed up by Boys Don’t Cry director Kimberly Peirce.
Even more intriguing however, is the report from Vulture that the shortlist to play Carrie herself has been whittled down to two. They are Kick-Ass star Chloë Moretz, and Haley Bennet, who starred in 2009’s The Hole and will be lining up alongside Ryan Gosling for Terrence Mallick's Lawless .
There’s a sizeable age gap between the two actresses (Moretz is still just 15 whilst Bennett is 24), although both could probably pass for 18 at a push. Moretz has the more impressive CV, although Bennett might fit the bill better if the studio is keen to go with a less familiar face.
The film will tell the story of awkward teen Carrie White, whose struggle to fit in at high school is aggravated by some burgeoning telekinetic powers and a monstrously domineering mother. No release date has been confirmed as yet, but the reboot is expected to arrive at some point in 2013.
