There's also upcoming indie games to consider, as well as plenty new games of 2024 that we're still awaiting platform details for – although we're holding out hope that titles like Towerborne and Hollow Knight Silksong will still land on Xbox One. So keep on reading to find info on the biggest upcoming Xbox One games of 2024, or why not jump back into one of the best Xbox One games or best Xbox Game Pass games if you're looking for something new to play right now.

Developer: Ubisoft Montpellier
Release date: January 18, 2024
Game Pass: No

One of the first essential games of winter 2024 is Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. This 2.5D platformer is a big change of pace to adventures like Sands of Time, opting instead for a metroidvania style design to push you into challenging combat encounters and hours of exploration. Everything we have played of it in advance of release has been excellent, and so we're keen to see how the final game shapes up when it launches on January 18.

Palworld

Developer: Pocketpair
Release date: January 19, 2024 (Early access)
Game Pass: Yes

Best described as "like Pokemon with guns", Palworld is an upcoming monster collecting and fighting game coming to Xbox Game Preview on Jan 19, 2024. If you've ever wondered what Blastoise would look like if he could carry a minigun on top of his built-in water jets, you're in for a lovely surprise. The 3D animations are definitely reminiscent of newer generation Pokemon titles, as is the celebratory arcade music underpinning it all. It looks pretty wild, and we can't wait to see more.

It's set to bring new protagonist Ichiban Kasuga together with Yakuza legend Kazuma Kiryu for an overseas adventure, with the pair leaving Japan behind for absurd antics in Hawaii. The game looks gorgeous, ridiculous, and absolutely massive, so you won't want to miss this one.

A classic title in the Persona series is getting a remake in Persona 3 Reload. Though the trailers managed to get leaked shortly before its announcement, it's good to have confirmation that developer Atlus is hard at work on not only a P3 remake, but a chibi version of Persona 5 too. The anime-style RPG will this time not feature a female lead, and with Atlus describing P3 Reload as "reborn for the modern era", players could expect some other surprise features alongside the familiar ones.

Dark Forces is one of the best Star Wars games of all-time, and developer Nightdive Studios – the masters of breathing new life into old classics – is working to give this iconic FPS a fresh coat of paint. While Dark Forces is no longer a part of the office Star Wars Timeline, you'll be able to guide mercenary Kyle Katarn on his mission to uncover the Galactic Empire's biggest secrets. It's a lot of fun, and we can't wait to return.

The Outlast Trials

Developer: Red Barrels
Release date: March 5, 2024
Game Pass: No

The Outlast Trials is one of the most anticipated upcoming horror games of the year. It's a first-person survival game which takes you inside mysterious Cold War experiments, serving as a prequel to the other games in the series. While you can play solo, The Outlast Trials also supports four-player co-op. Given that the game has you trying to complete tasks while trying to circumvent some disgustingly monstrous enemies, there's no harm in asking for a little help from your friends.
