One Tron star is still hoping for that third movie

Tron: Legacy wasn't quite the sequel fans had hoped for back in 2012, yet that didn't stop Disney from pushing on with Tron 3. Years of rumors finally saw the threequel enter early development this year, and shortly thereafter the studio did a complete 180 and cancelled all plans for it completely. One star who was set to return, however, hasn't let that minor hiccup dampen his hope for the movie.

Garrett Hedlund, who appeared in Legacy, seems confident that a third chapter in the franchise will materialise at some point. "I haven't been told it's totally dead," he explained to ComicBook.Com "Ever since we did Legacy, we knew that to have another story follow it up, it had to be concrete and exciting. Disney needed to have the right story to go forward. I think it was going to introduce some things that were as exciting as Legacy was and then some, though."
