Shadow of the Eternals put 'on hold' after failed crowdfunding campaigns

Shadow of the Eternals, the proposed spiritual successor to cult horror game Eternal Darkness, has been postponed indefinitely. Precursor Games chief creative officer Denis Dyack delivered the news in an update on the studio's forums.

"It is with a heavy heart that we have decided to put the Shadow of the Eternals project on hold," Dyack said. "We are very happy with what we have accomplished both as a group and with the community. The community has blown us away and was the one thing that kept us going through it all--we cannot thank you enough."

Precursor Games hosted two crowdfunding campaigns for the title, the first asking for $1,350,000, which was canceled, and the latter asking for $750,000, which raised less than of half its goal by its conclusion.

"Is the project dead? No, but we feel it needs a rest too," Dyack said. "We have all agreed as a group that when and if the time is right we will get together and start it up again."
