My Kidnapper review

Mark Henderson goes back over the time he was kidnapped by Colombian guerrillas

Strange but true: TV producer Mark Henderson made this doc after he was Facebook-friended by the very same left-wing guerrillas who kidnapped him in the Colombian Amazon in 2003.

The horrendous experiences of the victims and the humble statements of the perpetrators speak for themselves, but Henderson’s closeness to his subject (not to mention an emotionally manipulative Radiohead soundtrack) compromises the journalistic analysis.

Ultimately, Kidnapper functions more as an act of personal catharsis than as a study of the relationship between captor and prisoner.
