JOHNNY'S GOT SOME ALL-NEW NASTY WEAPONS
Obviously Rockstar have a solid template in place with GTA IV so there’s little need to tweak things, but with new man Johnny at the fore there’s sufficient reason for this DLC to feel fresh. There are five new weapons to wield: an automatic pistol, pipe bombs, sawn-off and automatic shotguns, and an M79 Grenade Launcher like the one Arnie uses in Terminator 2.
Amongst the throng of new sports bikes included, you’re also privy to a one-off, custom-made bike that The Lost gang ride, but once you destroy/lose/bail it into the river, it'll be gone forever. So look after this unique hog. Luckily, as Johnny is connected to the black market in LC, you can always ring a buddy who’ll deliver a different ride whenever you need it.
JOHNNY HITCHES A RIDE SHOOTING A SHOTGUN
There’s also the return of classic on-rails sections too, one of which takes place in a mission called Shifting Weight. A drug deal goes wrong (when does it ever go right, eh?) and Johnny ends up speeding away on the back of a mate’s bike armed with an automatic shotgun and infinite ammo.
Cop cars barrel into each other as they hunt you down, helicopters swoop in to give their marksmen a better shot at your head and it’s all played out in the cinematic camera angle until you hold the left trigger. Squeeze it in, your reticule pops up and you can fire through the windscreens of chasing cars or pop the wheels on a S.W.A.T van to send it careening off road. Our best bits were blasting the chopper pilot and seeing the whirlybird pound the road uncontrollably, and screaming through a petrol station moments before it explodes into flames as a cop car collides into it.
FORGET BOWLING, LET’S ARM WRESTLE
Instead of just handing out a few new guns and a couple of new vehicles, Rockstar’s decision to create a whole new story for this DLC is a winner. While we didn’t actually get to see them, we’re told that there are a load of new mini-games to break up the maiming and criminal activity, including arm-wrestling with fellow bikers and a hi/lo card game. There’s even some new heavy metal tracks added to the existing soundtrack, new TV programmes and internet sites to check out too.
