An online petition has sprung up calling for Activision, the game's developers, to rectify the situation by producing and making available a patch, however according to the petition, currently the software giant seems unwilling to accept there is even an issue.

The problems noted in the petition include:

After an already buggy start with it's release (lets not forget about COD2), Call of Duty 3 has yet again released content that at this point seems %100 non-functioning. Once you pay your money, download the map pack, and boot up the game you will find that none of the new maps are even available at the map selection menu.
Just when you thought it was safe to wander the quiet forests and sleepy hamlets of the French countryside again, publisher Activision goes and deploys a brand new pack of maps for Call of Duty 3 that shatter the pastoral peace. Heroically titled, the Valor Map Pack hit the Xbox Live Marketplace today, bringing you a bundle of five new multiplayer maps to the tune of 10 US dollars.

To show you how much we care, we've got a pair of screens for each map - 10 new screens in all. The focus of the ...
Activision seems intent on prolonging the thrills of Nazi-bashing by releasing a free bonus multiplayer map for the realistic-yet linear, Call of Duty 3. Starting today, January 11th, Xbox Live Gold members will have access to the map from Xbox Live Marketplace, while Silver members have to wait until January 18th.

The new map, titled “Champs,” ...

A Auto Update for Call Of Duty 3 went live last night. The COD3 Multiplayer team posted what this update fixes.

This update addresses many of the Ranked and Player Match issues that we've discussed over the last few weeks. While we've made a number of enhancements, the most significant improvement is that Ranked Matches join lobbies much faster through both Custom and Quick Match. Player Matches through Quick Match will now query a higher number of games before attempting to join, thus returning a better variety and better quality for the player.

Additionally, we've added some gameplay, HUD and options enhancements.
For example, brightness settings will be saved across both single-player and multiplayer; players will be able to instantly punish medics who maliciously team kill and revive continuously; Auto Team Balance will remain turned on after multiple map rotations, ensuring that each team always has an equal number of players; and players will be able to select either Axis or Allies in Ranked Battle games.
These enhancements will create a more streamlined gameplay experience; however, please be aware that online play is always complicated by players with non-optimal router and connection settings ¿ don't hesitate to refer to Xbox Live's "best practices" for router configurations, as it will prove helpful.
PS3 vs Xbox 360 - a developer speaks (News)

The debate over which is the more powerful next-gen games console has been raging for over a year, but in the last few weeks we've finally been able to pore over some first-hand evidence. The Call of Duty 3 conversions to Xbox 360 and PS3 are more closely comparable, perhaps, than many fanboys on either side would have predicted. More interesting is the unspoken rivalry between Gears of War and Resistance: Fall of Man - two showboating titles with similar themes and environments.

One thing has become clear. Totting up specs isn't going to help us choose a winner. On paper, PS3 has more raw processing grunt than Xbox 360, but at the moment - with second generation titles under their belts - developers seem to be extracting more performance out of Xbox 360. That's natural considering their greater experience with the platform. The question is, how much further can Xbox go?

Frankly, the only views that matter in this debate are those of programmers who have experience with next-gen hardware. So this week Guardian.co.uk spoke to Richard Hackett a head of technology at Blitz Games about his experiences with both machines. He feels that CELL has an ace up its sleeve and it's not something you might have predicted...

"As a result of the kind of processing power we have available we're going to see a lot more procedurally generated effects and dynamic visuals than we've seen before. This means not all game visuals will be created by an artist in the traditional way, an increasing amount will be created in real-time from algorithms and parameters. To make sure the artists stay in control and we don't resort to graphics created only by programmers (which is often a bad thing), we're working on systems for artists to create and edit these systems themselves without needing a degree in Software Engineering."

"Certain procedural effects are easier to create on the PS3 because of the power of the SPEs. Effects like water ...
The fanboy in us must also point out that the PS3 has exactly one title in the 100 most popular games, Resistance: Fall of Man, which sits comfortably at #100.
Rainbow Six Vegas takes the top spot this week! Looks like people are anticipating the release of Trauma Center on the Nintendo Wii also. Surprisingly, Call of Duty 3 takes the top spot on the PS3 chart. I guess some people have actually bought the PS3 to play games instead of succumbing to the almighty dollar...
FIFA Ousts Gears Of War From Top Of UK Charts (News)

There have been no new entries in the UK top ten this week, but considerable movement, as soccer simulation FIFA 07 moves up three places to reclaim the number one spot. The PlayStation 2 version is now outselling Pro Evolution Soccer 6 on PlayStation 2 by a factor of 3:2, while the Xbox 360 version of Konami's title is outselling its FIFA 07 equivalent by the same ratio.

Xbox 360 exclusive Gears of War was the most obvious victim in the shuffle of positions, with sales down by 45 percent on its debut week ¿ although it remains the only single format exclusive in the top ten.

Meanwhile, the newly released PlayStation 2 version of Call of Duty 3 kept the game afloat in the top ten for Activision, while the new Xbox 360 version of movie tie-in Cars did the same for THQ. Girl's toy license Bratz: Forever Diamondz proved to have the best week in the top ten though, with sales up by 45 percent ¿ led by the Nintendo DS version which accounted for 80 percent of all sales for the title.

Outside of the top ten, Nintendogs: Labrador & Friends re-entered as high as number thirteen, making for five Nintendo published titles in the top twenty. The highest new entry though was PlayStation 2 exclusive Guitar Hero II at number sixteen, which sold almost three times more than during its predecessor's debut. Home console movie tie-in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Legend of Jack Sparrow re-entered at number twenty-three, boosted by sales of the DVD release of the movie.

There was no place however for other Christmas titles such as Warhammer: Mark of Chaos from Namco Bandai/Deep Silver, Cricket 07 from Electronic Arts, Who Wants to be a Millionaire? Party Edition from Eidos, Sonic the Hedgehog from Sega or movie tie-in Happy Feet from Midway. Many of these titles stand a good chance of charting in the top forty next week, although others will no doubt be lost in the traditional Christmas rush of new titles.

Xbox Live veterans know that even the greatest of games can be an online failure if the servers are inadequate - the original Live iteration of Call of Duty 2 on Xbox Live was a nightmare until a patch was released that made it one of the 'must play' games on the service.

Gears of War is already one of the biggest and most successful games of the year, but how does it fare on Xbox Live? What about Call of Duty 3 too?

A reliable source close to the Call of Duty development teams has revealed not only the existence of Call of Duty 4, but vital details surrounding the game as well, including the fact that it will be based on modern combat.

According to our source, Call of Duty 4 will be developed by Infinity Ward, the developer behind the first and second installments. The three-way deal established between Infinity Ward, Treyarch, and Activision states that Infinity Ward will develop all even numbered titles while Treyarch develops the odd numbered games, such as Call of Duty 3. Treyarch did develop Call of Duty 2: Big Red One as well, however.

As aforementioned, Call of Duty 4 is said to step away from the war torn locales of World War II, instead focusing on the battlefields of present day. It is unknown if it will take the same path as Electronic Arts' Battlefield franchise, placing the spotlight on the Middle East.

Someone call Activision and let 'em know that 720p means 1280x720, please. Games-Aktuell, a German gaming outlet, has discovered that Call of Duty 3 and Tony Hawk's Project 8 are not running at a 720p high-def resolution.

When the tests were run, CoD3 was shown to be running at 1040x620 pixels and THP8 at 1040x584 pixels. The pixel drop reflects a resolution drop of 30% and 34%, respectively. The resolution drop could be assumed to help keep framerates up, but THP8 reportedly has framerate problems. So what's up?

Activision Germany told Cynamite.de that they weren't aware of the problem and are looking into it. Lower resolution is not something that normally just happens by accident, but given the recent quality assurance problems with CoD3, these resolution problems may just be another woeful mistake. If intentional, why the resolution drop in THP8 when the 360 is clearly powerful enough to handle something like Gears of War just fine?
Last year around this time, we were frothing at the mouth over Call of Duty 2. But now, a year older and a little wiser, we expect more out of our Xbox 360 than some jazzy-looking smoke bombs. Fortunately, Call of Duty 3 adds just enough new features to bring us back for more.

Call of Duty 3 is still the same straight-arrow, scripted, game-on-rails its predecessor was but developer Treyarch has refined this new iteration to such an extent that you'll barely notice the lack of freedom. You'll ...
COD3 on Xbox 360 is a huge leap technically over last year's excellent next-gen debut. Starting with your allies and enemies all freshly presented in silly detail, thanks to some new-fangled NASA scanning technology. We'd read all about this, but 'in the flesh' the soldiers look plenty more realistic in clothing that now hangs convincingly like heavy combat gear. In the "Night Drop" level it was pouring with rain too, so all the uniforms looked clingy and wet. You could feel the chill, adding to the misery of what lay ahead.
From the article: "Another arguable point is that all of the Wii's titles are 'gameplay exclusive.' Since the Wii has a its own control scheme, Call of Duty 3 is going to play quite differently on the Wii than it is on the Xbox 360 or Playstation 3. Will this cause gamers to purchase two versions of the same game? "

The investigatory-journalism notes that the Xbox 360 offers 48 exclusive games with the help of a one-year head start (48% of which are first-party), the PS3 has a total of 35 games (51% of which are first-party), and Wii represents with 40 titles (35% of which are first-party). Hit the read link for the full list of exclusives by console according to the games blog.
Call of Duty 3 dated for the UK (News)

Activision has confirmed the UK release dates for Call of Duty 3. The game will arrive on the Xbox 360 on November 10, followed by a PlayStation 2 version on November 24, and the Wii version on December 1 - a week before the UK launch of the Wii. The PlayStation 3 version will launch with the system next year.

It's not unusual for launch software to be released prior to the console, and with Call of Duty 3 likely to be one of the Wii's biggest sellers, buyers have an extra week to pick the game up and be ready for launch.

The Xbox 360 release of Call of Duty 3 starts an impressive month of shooters for the system. A week later Microsoft's Gears of War lands in the UK, followed by Rainbow Six Vegas the week after.
Call of Duty 3 Comparison (News)

Activision shows off a number of levels from all three next-gen versions of its WWII sequel, and Gamespot grabbed the controls to compare them all.

"It's worth noting that the 360 and PS3 versions are identical in terms of content; the only difference we noticed is that you can thrust with the sixaxis controller on the PS3 to make your character do his melee attack (though you can still use the button if you want). The games looked quite similar, too, from what we could tell. The level of detail in the maps and characters has been noticeably ramped up from Call of Duty 2, such as with the aforementioned individual grass blades and rays of light filtering through the trees. The characters' facial expressions, clothing, and animations are also appreciably more realistic than in the past. You'd be hard pressed to say which version looks better, especially since they're both running in 720p resolution, but neither one is a slouch in the visual department.

The Wii version, as it turns out, is content-identical to the 360 and PS3 versions, for the most part. It's reasonable to expect that the relatively weaker system will have fewer enemies and simplified geometry in some parts, but in terms of storyline, basic level design, and so on, you're getting the same game across all three platforms. The Wii version naturally doesn't feature the extreme detail of the other versions, but it does play much like we're coming to expect first-person shooters to play on this unique new platform. Like Metroid Prime 3 and Red Steel, COD3 has you using the remote for fine aiming, and moving the cursor to the edges of the screen will make you turn. The analog stick on the nunchuk makes you move, and the various other buttons of the Wii's controllers let you perform other actions like ducking, jumping, and going to iron sights."
The Call of Duty franchise has already defined what a next-gen first-person shooter should be, winning FPS battles since the day the Xbox 360 launched. Activision and Treyarch won't be happy until they win the whole darn war, and showed us their firepower in a next-gen hands-on gameplay session at Activision headquarters in Santa Monica, CA.

It's easy to see this series is hitting its stride. The people behind Call of Duty know that we want intense, memorable scenarios filled with carnage. We ...
Another platoon of screens from the console-only Call of Duty 3 has emerged from Microsoft's X06 media blowout - hit the images tab for some brooding warfront shots of US and German troops in the Normandy mud. Or hit the movie tab to see a superb new movie.

We were quite taken with the game when we played it earlier this month - no other WWII game brings out that heart-in-mouth sensation quite like Call of Duty and, even with a different developer working on this third ...
Call of Duty has quickly jumped from being well-respected to a juggernaut. As of July, Call of Duty 2 was the most popular 360 game on Xbox Live, and there's a lot more scrutiny on the sequel. Activison isn't shying away from the piercing eyes, however. The company invited us to Paris, France to get our hands on the single and multiplayer - despite technical glitches and the threat of all-consuming jetlag ruining the experience.

The good news is that these were mere distractions. Though Call ...
If there's one thing that Xbox 360 is good at it's war. And, based on an early version we've just played of the game, Call of Duty 3 isn't going to do that reputation any harm.

As with its predecessors, Call of Duty 3's strength lies in its winning combination of accessibility, authenticity and atmosphere, all of which are in evidence in single-player stage The Island. This is the game's second chapter and part of the larger Normandy breakout in which Allied forces ...
We've got a new video of Call of Duty 3 gameplay footage to offer today. It's apparently taken from the Xbox 360 version of the game currently in development (we spotted the blue X button on the menus) but we expect the PS3 and Wii versions won't be far off. The video features everything you want to see in Call of Duty - exploding tanks, sneak attacks, surprise grenades and, in the climactic finale, a desperate dagger attack from a crazed Nazi, complete with "blut und ehre" - "blood and honor" ...
Call of Duty 2 is undeniably hot right now. Months after it became the 360's top launch title, it's still the number one game on Xbox Live. Can lighting strike twice? We know 360 gamers are hoping it can. But the PlayStation 3's release is also coming up and the situation is, in many ways, similar. If you're planning to buy one of those beasts, you're no doubt already wondering - what games am I going to pick up? Both videos - available on the movies tab above - show how you'll get assistance and orders from the AI soldiers that fight alongside you. The AI help is one of the game's strengths with you never left to play the super-solider and take on the enemy by yourself - instead ...
The problem was, for the most part, we were in a wide open valley with very little cover, and the enemies already occupied the few higher altitude positions there ...

A recent job listing at Activision suggests that Treyarch, the studio behind Call of Duty 3 and Ultimate Spider-Man, will be developing the next James Bond videogame.
Back in May, Activision announced it had acquired videogame rights to the James Bond license, a property Electronic Arts had handled for years. The Bond franchise is a hot property -- insiders suggested Activision paid around $70 million for the game rights -- though so far the publisher has said little about what the dashing super-spy will be up to next -- or which studio is at the helm.

According to the job listing, "Treyarch is looking for a Gameplay Designer for our upcoming Bond title." The listing further specifies that the Activision-owned studio is now focusing on next-generation console development, suggesting the new Bond may leap clear of older systems.
It's the first-person shooter that has constantly set the standards in the World War II action market so it was with much excitement that we got to see the latest on Call of Duty 3.

With new additions to the Call of Duty series, publisher Activision's main aim has been to create the most intense and authentic WWII experience possible, which is why the transition to the next generation of consoles is hugely important. The extra processing power means more of everything - more enemy troops, more ...

In creating the upcoming Call of Duty 3 game, the game developers at Treyarch returned to the source of inspiration for previous games in the successful combat series: war movies.

Where recent World War II games were clearly inspired by more recent films such as Saving Private Ryan and Enemy at the Gates, Call of Duty 3 (due this fall) takes some cues from classics The Longest Day and A Bridge Too Far.

"We started looking at those great war movies where you have one big event that is viewed from multiple perspectives," says Treyarch's creative director, Rich Farrelly. As a result, Call of Duty 3 will have "lots of great intense battles with the Allies, the U.S. and British, and we get to introduce the Canadians and Polish forces that players haven't seen before."
When Wii hits the shops at the end of the year, it'll play host to next-gen versions of both Tony Hawk's and Call of Duty, according to publisher Activision.

Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam and Call of Duty 3 are set for release in autumn, and will feature in the launch line-up for Nintendo's newly rechristened console. However, despite hitting several current and next-gen systems, Call of Duty 3 won't be striking a beachhead on PC.
