Xbox One packs in 'major third-party title' for free, report says

Xbox One will come packed in with a "major third-party title" free in Europe and possibly elsewhere at launch, according to an anonymous source who spoke with CVG. The source said the otherwise full-price retail game in question will be revealed by Microsoft at Gamescom.

Microsoft's console costs $100 more than PS4, and the source said the free game was added to increase value without lowering price. Microsoft declined to comment on the report.

Now that Kinect is not necessary for the console to function, we predict Microsoft may even sell a cheaper bundle without the motion-sensing peripheral. It looks like we'll know either way on both counts by the end of Gamescom.

So basically they're charging $100 for FIFA 14.

Looks like it will be Fifa 14 bundled with pre-orders of the One. I can't see this being a big sway even for us in UK or Europe even if Fifa is a big game it's not a massive insentive.

I hope people don't fall for this marketing strategy. Even with a "free" copy of Fifa or whatever, but it still will be more expensive than buying a PS4 plus Fifa separately, plus when you get PSN Plus Sony is giving you almost a full retail game for free plus more games every month. Let alone the PS4 has more powerful hardware. Still I have a feeling people will see MS saying they are getting a free game and think its a really good deal. I'd prefer if they just dropped the price then I could buy any game I wanted to with the money. This wouldn't make me get a xb1, however if they offered a kinectless sku for the same price as a PS4 I might be tempted to pick on up for Dead Rising 3. I'm simply not paying for a peripheral I don't want and as of now has not proven to me is worth a penny, no game I want to play has ever been "better with Kinect".

Here you go Msoft, this one is free: Bundle Titanfall with the xbone. If you want the Euro market, bundle Fifa 14. Holiday season will be yours.

Call of Duty? I know that will make people rush to get an X1

It's probably Fifa or whatever the soccer game is over there...
  • GamesRadarCollanderCooper - August 19, 2013 6:24 p.m.

That could be a coup for Microsoft. Those Euros love their soccer.

Wahoo I was right! I want my cookie

While a Kinect-less X One would make a price point equal to the PS4, I seriously doubt they will. By including it with every system they can build on the promises that were shown in that project Natal demo years ago and have real uniqe games added for it.

It makes absolute no sense that Microsoft would pack a major third party game than a major first party game, since you are more likely to buy the major third party game on other consoles/computers.

You just answered your own comment as to why they are doing it (if this is to be believed).

This thing is crumbling on arrival, mostly on it's marketing. How will the ads go; "Hey guys you want a Xbox One, it has TV, games, a camera if you want to experience the future, a "friendly" community, sports.... we care about entertainment". I can't grasp the type of identity it looks forward to build. Like trying to make a new thing but being embarassed to show what it is and does better than the others.

Given that there's a story very near to this one on the front page about a Kinect fighting game, I think we can see where this is going
  • TokenGamesRadarFurry - August 19, 2013 4:47 p.m.

So basically it sounds like they won't be releasing a Kinect-less sku. Lame.
  • RSQViper - August 19, 2013 6:36 p.m.

Not YET anyway. But after release? Very possible.
  • TokenGamesRadarFurry - August 19, 2013 6:45 p.m.

Oh, I'm certainly hoping so! They'd be foolish not to.
