Witcher 2 Xbox 360 port delayed until early 2012

Shares

The console version of the very well-received RPG, which came out for PC back in May, has been pushed back to Q1 of 2012.

The official story is vague. CEO Adam Kicinski in a press release he had this to say: “The extra time will allow us to polish the title to perfection, so that the game offers an ideally balanced, fantastic experience to gamers.” And then he went on to say this, “As the launch of the game approaches, we will be sharing more details how it will be released on Xbox 360. I trust that despite the release date shift, players will be satisfied with what we are planning for them.” It was riveting.

While we’re sure CD Projekt will be using the extra time to “polish” their game, it’s notable that the company has also been involved in recent legal disputes with Namco Bandai, the publisher that handled the PC version of Witcher 2. Namco Bandai claims that CD Projekt broke an agreement by allowing THQ publish the Xbox 360 version of the game. CD Projekt claims their agreement with Namco Bandai was specific to the PC version. While neither company came out and said that its feelings were hurt, the implication is clear.

If it’s the legalities that are bogging down the game’s release, we hope the issues are worked out soon. If not, we’re sorry for spreading rumors.

@avantguardian I don't like him either, and I personally like my pc more than my console, although it's just MY personal opinion...
  • avantguardian - August 3, 2011 12:41 a.m.

p.s. calling something a "fact" when its really just your opinion makes you seem incredibly stupid.
  • avantguardian - August 3, 2011 12:38 a.m.

@db1331: yeah dude, no rage here, i just don't like you. you live in world of isolated hyperbole, where your opinion is ALL that matters. i never said you hate anything, i just called you an ass. and all you ever manage to do is sink that proverbial blade deeper with every stupid thing you write. oh, and i'm not stirring anything up, read the header. ass.

@avantguardian You seem upset. Why do you assume I hate consoles? I have a PS3 and a Wii. I love all kinds of video games on all kinds of platforms. PC>consoles is not my opinion. It's fact. It's not my opinion that the PC has better graphics, games that cost up to 75% less, free multiplayer, flexible controls, mods, etc. The only argument people can make is "A PC COSTS $2,000 AND YOU HAVE TO UPGRADE IT EVERY TWO MONTHS." I'm sure I don't need to tell you how stupid that sounds, since you are a "PC gamer." It's also not my opinion that PC games are typically more complex than console games. Name one franchise that went from PC-focused to console-focused and added depth and complexity. Just off the top of my head, here are some that got dumbed down for the Xbox; The Elder Scrolls, Deus Ex, Thief, Call of Duty, Dragon Age. Some would even say The Witcher, and I wouldn't begrudge them their argument. Now I'm not saying those games aren't still good (maybe with the exception of DA II, but they are undeniably simpler than their PC predecessors. If somebody wants to play a game on a console, that's fine. It doesn't bother me one bit. But if somebody wants to tell me that their Xbox is cheaper and just as good as a PC, I will correct them. If someone like you wants to come into a thread where nobody is having a platform debate and try to stir something up, I will say something. I know it must be frustrating to be so full of impotent rage, but please find a better outlet for it. Maybe you can fire up that Xbox and crouch behind a chest-high wall and let that aim-assist comfort you with some easy alien headshots.

@db1331: thank you for proving my point. "The PC itself is a better gaming platform than the consoles, and that's not even debatable. Anyone who thinks otherwise is ignorant." ouch. sure dude, your opinion totally invalidates everyone else's. also, your attempt to describe a console game is nothing short of hilarious. because clicking a mouse or hotkeys over and over again is WAY more cerebral and advanced. "your typical xbox game" jesus, shut the fuck up already. as if you can generalize hundreds upon hundreds of games(MANY of which, coincidentally, you CAN'T play on pc) into providing the same experience. i AM a pc gamer, you'll notice i only called out the snobby a-holes like you [which, as a side note, calling yourself GR's resident anything is laughable (except maybe "troll"), and i'm sure they'd agree]. i love my pc. i love the total war series, company of heroes, a lot of games that you just can't play on consoles. the first witcher was...alright. i also have a 360 and ps3, because there are so many awesome games YOU will obviously never play. not because you can't, but because your silly, childish fanboyishness just won't let you. and because you're an ass, and a very pompous one at that. its people like you that cause an unnecessary divisiveness among people that should all be friends, if not at least civil, BECAUSE WE ALL HAVE THE SAME FUCKING HOBBY. at least you hold no illusions as to your snobby assholishness. thinking anything more of yourself would surely just cause you disappointment anyway.

ShadowReaper666 - really? Not according to...anything based in reality.

@raptorak I believe that the ps3 is the inferior console
  • rabidpotatochip - August 2, 2011 12:44 p.m.

Honestly, I'm surprised it's going to take so long because it already felt like the PC version was set up to be ported from the start. The graphics were still really nice and my favorite bit was just the ambient noises everywhere you went but between the menus and the QTEs it just makes me wonder. But aside from that, easily the best game of 2011 for me and I really hope everyone who wants to gets a chance to play it. Obligatory rant about how PC is better for some, console is better for others, yadda yadda yadda.

@avantguardian As GR's resident smug PC a-hole, I would just like to remind you that no PC player thinks they are better than any console player. The PC itself is a better gaming platform than the consoles, and that's not even debatable. Anyone who thinks otherwise is ignorant. Back on topic. The Witcher 2 will no doubt be the best game the 360 has ever seen. It would be interesting to see how much they change in the port, because as it stands the game is far from your typical Xbox game. It's not a game where you decide if you want to play a good guy or a bad guy at the start, then mash X for 10 hours until you beat it. There is lots of dialogue. In some parts of the game, you could go an hour or more without fighting anything. Anyhow, it's the best game I've played so far this year. If you liked it and haven't played the first one, I would HIGHLY recommend it. It's not as pretty as the 2nd game, but it has a much more interesting story imo.

While we don't have any hard dates for the PS3 version, CD Projekt has hinted that they'll be creating one, but they prefer to work on one version at a time. They'll probably start on the PS3 version after they finish this mess with the Xbox 360 version.
  • avantguardian - August 2, 2011 9:27 a.m.

they need to optimize the SHIT out of this. make it as good as it can be. people can/will wait. the ironic part about smug pc a-holes is that everyone else just thinks they're kind of pathetic. they can feel free to boast all they want. NO ONE envies them.
  • The_Tingler - August 2, 2011 8:49 a.m.

@quincytheodore: You're in luck - Deus Ex: Human Revolution comes out in a few weeks. That'll keep you until Skyrim, and you may end up preferring it. @Deathdeisel: The main reason is that it's simply easier to port from PC to 360. There's a reason it took Valve so long to go to PS3. I'm sure it'll end up there eventually.
  • shadowreaper72 - August 2, 2011 8:13 a.m.

They can take all the time they need on it. I love games like Mass Effect and Dragon Age where your choices affect the story and I hear this one beats them all hands down.
  • quincytheodore - August 2, 2011 7:59 a.m.

That means Withcer 2, ME3 and FF XIII-2 bundled together at early 2012.. Okkayyy... So what are the games of August? In serious need of one now...
  • raptorak - August 2, 2011 5:48 a.m.

Why no PS3 version? Shame that the inferior console is so well supported by third parties, am definitely not buying another Microsoft console after having 4 different 360s die between my brother and myself. Luckily I have a PC that would wipe the floor with all the current consoles strapped together :P Price drop on Steam and Witcher 2 here we go!
  • Deathdeisel - August 2, 2011 3:46 a.m.

I actually just beat this game last night, i really am impressed. Although it frustrates me to no end that they arent coming out on PS3 too, all of my friends and GF have a PS3, not 360. Why do developers do this? Either way, nice to see such a great game, graphically(loved maxing it out with a 580GTX), and story wise, get more publicity and hopefully more sales.
  • Yeager1122 - August 2, 2011 2:45 a.m.

Still going to be better on pc love my 360 but bought this for pc because i knew it would play better on pc.
  • Zepaw - August 2, 2011 2:42 a.m.

Me and my purdy mac don't play games together. Guess I am waiting until 2012. I know little of this game and yet I am almost more excited for this than Skyrim.
  • samsneeze - August 2, 2011 2:41 a.m.

I can wait. I definitely don't need another crap port.
  • Manguy17 - August 2, 2011 12:58 a.m.

well, this just goes down to whether i upgrade my graphix card before then, I got it on pc alrdy, but it runs too badly for it to be worth playin much of. if its good i might get it on xbox aswell anyway.
