Wii U rumour: 3D Mario releasing by October

Nintendo plans to launch a new 3D Mario game for Wii U by October, according to CVG sources. In January, the platform holder confirmed that it’s working on two new Mario games for Wii U, a 3D action title developed by the team behind the Super Mario Galaxy series and a new Mario Kart. Playable versions of both games will be present at this year’s E3 in June.

Nintendo plans to boost flagging Wii U sales by releasing a string of high profile first party games in the second half of 2013. June release Game & Wario will be the first Nintendo-developed title to launch for Wii U since last year. It will be followed by Pikmin 3 the following month in Japan and in August in North America.

While Nintendo wouldn’t comment on plans for its 3D Mario game, UK PR director Shelly Pearce told CVG: "From July onwards we will launch a succession of Wii U titles and we will promote these extensively until the end of the year. Marketing activity will include TV, print, online and PR as well as comprehensive experiential and social media campaigns. We have a strong line up planned for Wii U in the second half of 2013 including the likes of Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD Wii U. We are looking forward to launching these in the UK and for the opportunity to showcase the full potential of Wii U."

I don't know why Nintendo didn't try to start the Wii U's launch with a new (3D) Mario. I just hope that releasing all their killer apps so close together doesn't come back to bite them in the arse - it's not just their own releases that they should be worried about. With PS4 expected by December 13 and the usual heavy hitters such as CoD, Battlefield and this year GTA5, people's attention will be elsewhere

So basically the second half of this year is gonna be where all the hype games are at. Looking forward to it!

I wouldnt be surprised, Nintendo has been secretive on tons of stuff and then revealing them close to their release. I just hope that it doesnt end up rushed like Super Mario 3D Land, despite how awesome that game still was. Damn, where is Mario going now? He's been up and going with his 3D Platformers its hard to tell. We do know, as usual, it will make the best use of the Wii U's concept like every other game. Galaxy 2 only exists because there was still tons of ideas they had and better level design overall to warrant it and it was damn well worth it. Its gonna be interesting where they are going next, the linearity in Galaxy makes the platforming better overall so its hard to tell if they should bring back the more open aspect. All this waiting is making me chatter.

If they're going to do that, we can reasonably expect a Nintendo Direct sometime in the next month officially announcing them, right? If they're skipping on the traditional press conference this year, they won't just show up with new Mario and be like, "Oh yeah! Here's this!" Should be interesting to see how close to before or after Microsoft's big reveal they have it.

Your right, Nintendo's basically trading the E3 conference for Nintendo directs throughout so we should expect something that will probably mean to steal the attention. And so far, every single Nintendo direct this year has been nothing but surprises.

Maybe the more important question isn't when it will be but what the focus of it will be. Will they Mario centric Direct? Who will they grab the bull by the horns and call it a pre-E3 Nintendo Direct and make tons of announcements outside of the rumored Mario news? It'll be pretty cool to see a major Zelda release and Mario release in the same season, if this rumor is true.

True, its probable since were getting that and Wind Waker HD That is a major factor and technically we got allot of stuff Nintendo was supposed to reveal, The 3D Platformer and Kart, more information on Wind Waker HD, that Yarn Yoshi, including more info on 3DS games, and a smash teaser and if were lucky, whatever Retro's Wii U game is. I'm gonna guess they are gonna time them on specific directs like the way they were busy Last Year, before their main conference they had a direct to introduce Miiverse and the Pro controller so they don't waste time, and after their main conference, had a separate Direct for 3DS. This is probably what their gonna do this time, make directs for specific reveals. Though Link to the Past 2 came as a "One more thing" so who knows what and when they'll pull em
