What's your favourite shooter - is it... Call of Duty?

If you're a gamer, the GamesMaster Golden Joystick Awards need no introduction. Which is great for us because it means we can skip the bit about them being the only gaming awards that matter because they're the only gaming awards that are voted for by gamers.

Voting for this year's awards has already begun. If you haven't voted, you can do that right now by visiting the GamesMaster Golden Joystick Awards voting page.

In the meantime, to get everyone feeling sexy and excited for the awards, we'll be highlighting each of the categories in turn. Today, we're looking with feverish anticipation at the Shooter, Strategy and Free-to-play nominations.

Category: Shooter

Who are we voting for?

Cundy: "Vanquish. I like fast shiny things."

Dave: "Singularity. I'm a sucker for a plucky underdog, especially one with throwable rockets and a bullet-time sniper rifle."

Nathan: "Bulletstorm - it brings the fun back into a genre that's become dull and predictable."

Category: Strategy

Who are we voting for?

Cundy: "Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective. Inspector Cabanela is my hero."

Dave: "Starcraft II. Because it is goddamn Starcraft II."

Nathan: "Ghost Trick. It's the only one I've played to completion."

Category: Free-to-play

Who are we voting for?

Cundy: "World of Tanks. Because it's, like, a world of tanks. Imagine that."

Dave: "Bejewelled 3. Pretty colours. So hypnotic. What time is it again?"

Nathan: "Bejewelled 3. None of the other titles can match its addictiveness."

So that's whose getting our Shooter, Strategy and Free-to-play votes. How about you lovely people? Feel free to share your choices in the comments. And join us again on Friday when we'll be looking at the Fighting, MMO and Racing categories.

i would either vote for singularity or vanquish cant decide.
  • saintsofboredom - September 7, 2011 9:09 p.m.

I personally liked bulletstorm, I just kind of wish it had an actual multiplayer.
  • quincytheodore - September 7, 2011 8:04 p.m.

I've played Singularity, Vanquish and Bulletstorm. All of them are unique, glad they were nominated. Just by fun factor and length, I have to go with Bulletstorm.
  • slimjim792 - September 7, 2011 7:52 p.m.

yeah, why not battlefeild? in my opinion, the battlefield games look way better and always have some crazy action going on..that would have been my vote!
  • QuickSticks45 - September 7, 2011 4 p.m.

Ghost Trick was such a fantastic game, but i doubt it will win with such a popular title like Starcraft 2 on it.
  • LeSieg - September 7, 2011 2:34 p.m.

Currently the website does not seem to be working, unless I'm doing something wrong.
  • EnigmaSpirit - September 7, 2011 2:24 p.m.

Would have said Disgaea 4 for strategy, but I guess it's too late so Ghost Trick seems fitting.
  • Jedipimp0712 - September 7, 2011 2:19 p.m.

just for Daves Strategy comment, he is my new favorite GR writer. ha ha
  • EBAX1 - September 7, 2011 1:31 p.m.

Singularity was my shooter choice, although bulletstorm was really good too
  • kachigop - September 7, 2011 12:49 p.m.

"Because it is goddamn Starcraft II." If you've ever played Starcraft, you understand. Plus, if you haven't played this game then do yourself a favor and go buy it.

Best shooter(single player AND multiplayer): Medal of Honor. BlOps single player was crap and multi is ridiculous(not in a good way) Best strat game: Dawn of War(only one I played) Best free to play: Team Fortress 2. Not on there but should be. World of tanks or Forsaken World would get my vote otherwise.
  • UberNoob - September 7, 2011 1:30 p.m.

Medal of Honor was fun, but the multiplayer KILLED the game. Every time I would respawn I would either be shot by a spawn-killing sniper or be blown up by an RPG. The singleplayer was fine, but it felt mediocre in a way. The running animation was strange and when ever you aim down your sites, the animation for that was too stiff (your gun would just suddenly come up to your face and the sights wouldn't sway, it would just stay there). Some of the reload animations were too fast (pistol being one of them). Don't get me wrong, I like the Medal of honor franchise, but their last game really needed work. I hope the sequel can improve on that.
  • Grif - September 7, 2011 9:27 a.m.

    Please Vanquish please!
  • ShadowReaper666 - September 7, 2011 8:18 a.m.

    Why couldn't I vote for battlefield?! >:O
  • Plan10FromOuterSpace - September 7, 2011 7 a.m.

I agree with Cundy, I too voted for vanquish as the best shooter, who needs online play when we have leaderboards?
  • bigwill1221 - September 7, 2011 6:43 a.m.

Eh only problem with this voting system is not everyone has played every game, only like 2-3 from some of the list... so most likely the most hype/sold games are gonna win.
  • wicko - September 7, 2011 6:07 a.m.

Site craps out every time I try to vote, also why does it say on the strategy page that Starcraft 2 was released this year? It's been out for over a year now..
  • IREPMINNEAPOLIS - September 7, 2011 6:05 a.m.

@SHAWKSTA:So what category would you put L.A. Noire in and why? Sure played like an action/adventure game to me. It definitely ain't a shooter.
  • shawksta - September 7, 2011 11:52 a.m.

yeah i know, its probably because its made by Rockstar, but OOT an RPG?
  • KnightDehumidifier - September 7, 2011 6 a.m.

The answer for all three goes to Battlefield Heroes.
