Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 on Vita features 'tap screen to attack' mode. Whaaa?

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 is one of the most exciting prospects on PS Vita. But why sideline its already ultra-accessible control system by giving it a needless touch screen mode? According to Game Star (after translation), the game will feature a 'tap to attack' mode. Super Street Fighter IV 3DS features touch screen attack shortcuts on the touchscreen which massively unbalance the online game, but on Vita? Utter madness!

For starters, Street Fighter on 3DS has TWO screens, meaning the actual fight is never obscured by your thumbs. On Vita, you'll be touching the same screen you're trying to watch. Of course, any fighting aficionado will tell you that you should only look at your opponent while you play, but that's not going to help newcomers, who will be left looking at more 'thumb' than 'fun'.

Above: "Toasty!" Also, I've a long way to go before achieving Hand Model status

The other thing of course, is that there's another, even simpler system included in the game which is used for attacking to devastatingly simple effect. The buttons.

Still, touch attacking is only going to be an optional feature, so it's not all that bad. We imagine it'll be used as a shortcut system for special moves down the left and right-hand extremities of that lovely wide screen. And ensure that online Quick Matches are a festival of spam.

Sigh...

Like if I don't have enough trouble getting my ass handed to me. Last thing I need is an easier way to get spammed.

Cue the clueless PlayStation Vita ad featuring this game with an actor looking at the playable character roster prior to starting up the match remarking "I'd tap that!"

The HUD doesn't look too bad when the giant Dos Equis logo is covered up.

I hope they make Touch Commands as easy to predict as Easy Mode, then it wouldn't be so hard on vets and the average players to actually have some fun.

Come on. It's obviously going to make match-ups based on control scheme. Right?

if it's anything like MvC3, you have a choice what control scheme you want to use pre-battle.

Theres no way that Capcom is gonna be messy with this. There will probably be an option when matchmaking to exclude the other control schemes. They've been great with this stuff before

Ok, well the fact that this is completely optional makes this article and the obvious anger behind it kind of pointless. Its just a nice option for people who might prefer to play it that way, and its existence doesn't take away from the final product at all. As someone who enjoys fighters but struggles with the combo inputs I'm kind of interested in how it will work and even more interested in how the back touch screen can be implemented.

If its a control scheme then we could look at nothing but spamming online. It could seriously effect the online in terms of being fair, but,if its a seperate mode than OK especially with the back screen possibilities.

It will depend on if its an optional mode or an optional control scheme. Mode, okay, but control scheme, we got a big problem here, especially if it lets you do specials and hypers easily. I actually learned to play good in SSF43D without the touch pad, its just an option to me now.
