The best Sonic moments ever - with video

If Sonic Unleashed is like this, it'll be amazing

Words: on April 17, 2008

With Sonic Unleashed looking like being a side-scroller with some into-the-screen sections, our fingers are all kinds of crossed. Now, history has taught us not to get too excited, but having just put together the following montage of all the best bits of Sonic's past, we are excited. You see, if Sonic Unleashed can concentrate the experience into this kind of gameplay mix, it will be the game we've been waiting for.

So, to continue our Sonic season, kick back and enjoy the video, then join us as we count down the hog's ten greatest moments. Oh, and the music on the video is Sonic's Theme 'It Doesn't Matter' from Sonic Adventure. We wouldn't use such cheesy music for a video unless it was related. Honest.

10 Wall Run (Sonic Adventure 1/2)
3D Sonic games have been criticised for being too reliant on set-pieces, but we still love this one. Maybe it's because Sonic doesn't speak. He just finds himself on a glass floor, which breaks, leaving you looking down at the city way, way below you.

The soundtrack makes a sort of squealing noise that just shouts "VERTIGO!" as you start to fall. Is it all over for our hog? Nope! He just breaks into a sprint down the side of the building. Who else would do that?

9 Gulp of air (Sonic 1/2/3)
So simple, so iconic. Maybe it's the 2D graphics, but you'd never get the same effect from 3D. Sonic's low on air, he sees a big bubble and gulps air from it, extending his time underwater. Gameplay device, endearing action and moment of safety, all in one.

I want a good sonic game to come out soon so bad. Why can't they just go back to the original formula with better graphics and maybe a few twists? I would pay fifty bucks for a remake of the original with updated graphics on 360

Aw, this article makes me feel sad, though uplifted at the same time. The intro talking about Sonic Unleashed, before we'd even heard the word 'were-hog'... Why can't we just have a proper 2D Sonic 4 for PSN and XBLA? Using the Sonic 2 engine? Wouldn't even have to be HD... I'd seriously still pay £50 for it, just like I did for Sonic 3.
