Sega confirms Dreamcast Collection, denies Dreamcast 2

Sega's ill-fated Dreamcast system may have died many years ago, but its games and cult-like status have lived on in digital form and in dusty gamer closets for over a decade. Now, Sega is looking to show a little love for its lost console with a brand new 'Dreamcast Collection.'

In an interview with Game Informer, Sega's VP of sales and marketing, Alan Pritchard, has confirmed that a title devoted to past Dreamcast titles will be making its way onto current consoles sometimes next year thanks in part to the continued success of its digital downloads such as Crazy Taxi.

"The Dreamcast fans are very devoted. You see on eBay people are still buying the games and system,” said Pritchard, further explaining, “We are looking to bring some of the old Dreamcast games to market digitally and packaged. The titles are still to be announced. The Ultimate Genesis Collection did huge numbers on PS3 and 360, so it’s an important part of our business."

Earlier this year, Sega confirmed that 18 to 22 Dreamcast games would be making their way to PSN and XBLA by summer 2011. Whether this 'Dreamcast Collection' will be a compilation of these titles or a whole new selection, Sega isn't saying.  As for rumours of a brand new Dreamcast console, Pritchard was a little clearer, noting: "Unless there’s something I don’t know – no one has told me about getting back into the console business.”

Are we finally going to get Shenmue 2 in the USA?
  • Crimsonkingx - December 14, 2010 6:23 p.m.

Please! Give me Power Stone 1 and 2 on 360/PS3 with online support! Those games were gems! Hell...I enjoyed a good 75% of the Dreamcast library. Had some amazing shoot' em ups on it as well. Great news nevertheless.

"We're going to cater to our beloved Dreamcast fans. Shenmue? What's that?"

if you really want to play shenmue 2, get it for xbox or just download the PAL version for dreamcast. or, don't play it at all because it totally doesn't hold up to today's standards.

Its on the Saturn, but, the one game I want more than any other is Guardian Heroes. Anyone with me on this?
  • seagulls - December 15, 2010 6:32 a.m.

absolutely for guardian heroes (especially after that so-so GBA version), as well as panzer dragoon saga and, if they're feeling adventurous, burning rangers.
