See what you'll be killing in Vanquish

Care to see why Vanquish is one of the games GR is most looking forward to? We’ve spent plenty of time gleefully singing the praises of Platinum Games’ ballsout Japanese take on the third-person shooter genre, and you’ll start to understand why after peeping the below video, which highlights the enemies you’ll be massacring in the game into a minute and change of pure sizzle.

Giant mechs, sentient chainsaws, metal arachnids, and merciless drones… Mmmm, more please. Actually, what’s more interesting than what the enemies are, are the methods hero Sam Gideon takes to dispose of them. Yeah, the dude’s got an adaptive Borg gun, but blink and you’ll miss him upper cutting foes into one another, decapitating an enormous robot, and doing a sideways rocket-launcher takedown in mid-air!

Above: Suck it, John Woo!

We strongly recommend you take in the demo currently available on PSN and XBL, just so we don’t look like silly, geeky geese for continually calling Vanquish a breath of fresh air for a genre that’s pretty much overdosed on horseshit cover systems and “gritty” realism to the point of stagnation. Vanquish hits PS3 and Xbox 360 October 19th, so stay tuned for a review in the coming weeks.

A Visual Guide to Vanquish's Cover System

I just had to sit through a commercial for Vanquish on that F**KING TERRIBLE video player to see the NEW trailer for Vanquish. There's an irony in that, I'm sure... Anyways, the game does looks pretty sweet, albeit a bit generic considering that it's Platinum Games. Still, nice to see Sega supporting something that doesn't feature a blue hedgehog.

@hardcore_gamer1990 "I'm thinking Ratchet and Clank meets Gears of War meets Kung Fu Hustle (the film, not the game)" I am firmly behind that description. Sega: Put that on the box! @BishopofHippo93 The reasons I'm personally digging on Vanquish is that it's not really a shooter. At least not traditional one. The acrobatics, melee moves, setting and boss battles are the stuff that sticks with me as I write this. Trust me, if you think you're sick of shooters, multiply it by a thousand... That's where I'm at.

This game makes me really wish I wasn't getting sick of shooters. Might try it out anyway, though...

I fucking love Platinum games, they're amazing.

Gotta say I'm looking forward to this one too! Maybe this will be the game I had always hoped Lost Planet would have been, but faster faster faster! The art style is really impressive too, a bit like like Halo but much more ambitious with the mecha designs, and less with the silly alien enemies... I never thought the Covenant were worthy looking foes for Spartans. Hope Sega can pull it all together in the gameplay...

Im with you GR Team with Vanquish, i've played the demo and it totally surprised me how enjoyable it was. Funny thing is i downloaded the demo in the first place becuase i saw it was developed by platinum games and i remembered they made Madworld, which sadly didn't sell well at all on the wii...
  • AGENTJORRRG - October 5, 2010 8:42 p.m.

    The demo sucked
  • StrayGator - October 5, 2010 8:33 p.m.

Balls out ridiculous- me likey. If only they ditched Gruffy Genericsson and used Segata Sanshiro instead... Hey, it's not too late to add him as an unlockable!
  • AwesomeA1010 - October 5, 2010 8 p.m.

i've been waiting for a game like this forever if they found some way to work this style of gameplay into a mass effect game >.>
