Ridge Racer Unbounded announced - see its 'wilder' direction in the debut trailer

Last night, Namco Bandai announced Ridge Racer Unbounded for the 360, PS3, and PC. If you liked the series' vibrant colors and racing behind waterfalls 'n stuff, get ready for none of that! Unbounded is "wilder" and more "dangerous," says Namco Bandai UK marketing head Lee Kirton. It's also called UNBOUNDED, which, despite being a real word, bounces off our tongues in a way that makes us sound decidedly like toddlers who just learned about consonants.

As you can see, the game "breaks all the rules" and delivers a "punishing dose of destruction" completely innocent cab drivers, apparently. No release date has been announced, but we're told we'll be receiving more information "over the coming months."

Our silly cynicism aside, what do you think of Ridge Racer's new direction? Also, what did this sweet-looking girl do to deserve this?

Above: We hope she's insurededed

For all their bitching about how terrible their western developed games sold, Namco seems content to pass off one of it's biggest franchises to a western(ish) developer. Not that it's a bad thing, just that Namco needs to make up it's mind on whether it hates us or not. I'm certainly looking forward to this game, I like Ridge Racer, and I like Flatout,so I imagine this will be a very fun game.

As a long-time RR fan, I'm not too sure what to think at the moment. It's pretty clear they wanted to call it Unleashed, but then they remembered Sonic... But Unbounded? Really? Also, it's worth noting that not only is there a company outside of Namco developing the game for the first time, that company happens to be Bugbear, known for the Flatout series, which I also love. Plus, there's no number in the title, which they haven't done for at least 15 years on a console game, probably to hammer home the fact that this is a departure from previous games. It's gonna be interesting seeing them maintain their firmly planted happy sunshine arcade roots with this kind of gritty realism. Even thinking about car damage in an RR game makes my head hurt. ... Sorry, kinda went off on one there, didn't I?

you guys are poo at morphology. Also this tailer was ridiculous, her car looks completely out of place in the realistic city (because of fake stuper cars), she got out of one car to get into another car (presumably because her plan was to drive that car into other cars thereby saving the body of her own) and she needlessly walked through a steam vent which I imagine smells like poo and would be kinda wet (why?!?! personally, I would walk around)

Haha wow that looked like a fan made CGI ride racer video. Well they had to get something to follow the announcement lol. Taxi T Bone Racing looks fun haha that should be the title.
