Madden NFL 08

A pint-sized Madden delivering a big-time experience

For all we know, the PSP was built for Madden. Because of its big, beautiful screen, powerful innards, and - gasp! - more-than-workable control scheme, the football experience on Sony's handheld has been one of the best to be found on the platform. Sure, this year's brand new Madden 08 may not be packed to the gills with features, visuals, or gameplay mechanics significantly different than last season's game, but it's a fundamentally solid gridiron effort that looks, sounds, and plays great.

From the first kickoff, Madden 08 is as familiar as an old baseball glove (wrong sport, right analogy). Between the superb visuals, tight controls, and Al Michaels/John Madden commentary, someone who's thrown down in a recent version of the game on any system will feel right at home. Those of you out there who've skipped a gaming generation may feel intimidated by the level of depth, and we feel for you. You've missed a lot, and there may not be any hope left for your football dreams.
