PS3 players start CoD: Black Ops refund petition

Fed up with the number of bugs plaguing the PS3 version of Call of Duty: Black Ops, players have begun an online petition seeking refunds for what's being called an inferior version of the multi-platform title.

Almost immediately after the launch of Black Ops, PS3 owners began criticizing the game for bugs and glitches, ranging from almost-humorous image rendering problems to unexplained crashes. Xbox 360 users, meanwhile, have had a smoother ride. There had been some lag problems on the PC but they have supposedly been fixed up.

Meanwhile, despite patches to the PS3 version, some players are still reporting issues that are nowhere to be found on the other platform versions.

The petition poses the question, "Is it fair to charge PlayStation 3 owners the same price for an inferior product, when the previous version (Modern Warfare 2) was equal on both systems but the updated version (BO) is not?"

"We are requesting a full refund for Call of Duty: Black Ops!"

More than 1,000 people have signed the petition in the span of the last six days. That's a bit more than a blip on the radar, but unlikely to be enough for publisher Activision to take seriously. We presume that Treyarch will continue to release PS3 patches to soothe the unrest.

Why not just return it for a refund?
  • elchamber - November 30, 2010 10:54 p.m.

What ever about COD Black Ops. Fallout New Vegas is completely worst.

What bugs????...what are they talking about. Maybe i'm just lucky but so far i'm a satisfied PS3 COD: Black ops owner. No problems singleplayer nor multiplayer.

it works perfectly on my ps3. one of the first games apart from mag to have no lag at all. there were a few annoying things when the game back. all of them were fixed pretty quickly though.

NeoGaf recently found out that Microsoft and Activision are in business together with Xbox Live (Activision makes money from Xbox Live now, which is the real reason for the $10 hike in Live). Since Activision doesn't make money off of PSN, why would they even care about PS3 users? The best part is: you'll never get your money back! It's just how the video game industry works. Greedy, isn't it?

AceDynamo, based on how shitty your comment was, I am assuming it was meant to be sarcastic. Doesn't really bother me if you want to make some bullshit racial claims, but at least make it coherent. As for the petition, don't waste your time with that trash. It doesn't do jack shit and actually makes you look like a 6 year old kid to think that it would matter.
  • urwifemykids - November 25, 2010 8:43 a.m.

@acedynamo ya cuz the ps3 actually has a nickname for its system failures unlike the 360. are you serious ive had to replace my 360 4 times in the last 2 years while my ps3 ive never had to replace my ps3 in the 3 years i had it.
  • urwifemykids - November 25, 2010 8:38 a.m.

i saw this coming when they started releasing dlc for MW2 on the 360 about a month before the ps3 activision doesn't care about ps3 owners as much as 360 owners

I've had no issues on single player for Black Ops but I've a lot of problems on multiplayer. It takes a good two minutes to even have the option to join a match after I sign in. Zombies multiplayer features an absurd amount of lag with players and zombies basically teleporting around the room. I've been kicked from wager matches that I've won from the final killcam screen and not even refunded the points. The general lag in multiplayer matches has improved but is still noticeable and kinda frustrating. I'm sure these problems can be fixed and will be at some point, but this "release it now, fix it later" philosophy is rather bullshit, get your shit together

This seems to be a trend with all recent games. Pump them out ASAP and don't worry about bugs, glitches, or anything else that might pose a problem for the customers. What's the deal, here? Why are developers and publishers not creating products that work properly? There seems to be some kind of mind-set where "it's okay to put out a buggy product; we can patch it later," which is downright shoddy and makes for a poor business model. A car company, for example, would be out of business (and under a few class-action lawsuits) if it continuously sold cars that only worked in 2nd gear or had an issue where the car would shut down every 10-20 minutes. Instead of just signing some online petition, people should be flooding the customer service physical mailboxes with complaints -- enough so that the company has to pay the Post Office a fee for a bigger PO Box -- and calling their phone lines. Online petitions sound great, but making yourself more directly heard is even better. That said, I should probably get off my butt and start writing my own letter of complaint to Lionhead Studios, too.

My PS3 BO copy has functions just fine; I wonder why some people are having these bugs, but most are not.
