Professor Layton movie coming to North America November 8th

North American living rooms are about to receive a touch of class, smarts and stylish top hats as Viz Media and Level-5 have confirmed the English adaptation of Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva will be arriving on DVD and Blu-ray November 8th.

Already available in Japan (or in bits and pieces throughout the Internet), Professory Layton and the Eternal Diva is a cinematic extension of Level-5's popular puzzle game series starring the good professor himself, his cheruby sidekick Luke, and a cast of familiar friends and foes. Its plot is considered official canon, and described in today's release as:

“Professor Layton, true English gentleman and the world’s greatest amateur super sleuth, embarks on his most daring adventure yet when he receives a letter from his old student, the famous opera diva Janice Quatlane. She is to perform at the legendary Crown Petone Opera House and invites him to attend as her special guest. Meanwhile, a spate of disappearances hits London. Two young school girls are the latest victims, and the Professor suspects it’s related to the mysterious occurrences at the theatre. The Professor and his loyal assistant Luke travel to the Opera House to solve their toughest puzzle yet, the mystery of Eternal Life!”

Amateur super sleuth?! We'll let that one slide.

When it was first announced that the Professor Layton's 2009 debut film would be released out west, there were hopes it would be treated to some form of theatrical release. Somehow, solving the film's interactive puzzles alone seems a little awkward, but the good news is now we can fast forward to the answers without feeling guilty.

Yeah, "English adaptation" couldn't be more wrong - it's been here in England for months. In English.

The story of that movie takes place after Professor Layton and the Last Specter so i wait to play through the game before watching the movie.

Nice anime film, already watched it, however. If the American version comes with its own voice actors I may give it another watch, but it'll probably just be the UK version. Which wasn't a bad thing.

This is only just coming out in North America?! I'm shocked, it's been out in the UK for ages. It's usually the USA getting an Anime release seemingly an ice age before the UK. That aside, it's a good film. I'm not that familiar with the franchise and I enjoyed it!

Sounds worth a watch. Not sure if the characters will be that compelling without the puzzles.
