Pro Skater HD sells 120,000, may warrant "fuller game"

Developer Robomodo said recently that their latest release, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD (an HD remake of some of the content from the first two Tony Hawk games) has sold a very respectable 120,000 copies in the weeks since its release. They also said that sales are steady even post-launch.

According to Josh Tsui, studio director at Robomodo, this may be grounds to approach Activision about a releasing a larger experience. "The prospect of a fuller game is definitely on the table," but they'd have to figure out the specifics with Activision.

Tsui did not elaborate on what this might mean exactly. A new traditional title in the Pro Skater series? As in, something more akin to the popular original numbered titles, and less like the newer Underground and peripheral-based games? Or perhaps he just means a more complete HD box set of all (or at least many of the original games.)

We didn't exactly love THPS HD. But we still have a soft spot for the series, and we'd love to see them take another crack at updating it for the more modern age. As long as they understand that everything they've been trying to do with the series in the past 8-10 years has gone quite poorly.

I gave THPSHD a try but I think the 360 controller is terrible for that sort of game. I also found it baffling that they took out moves such as the Revert upon landing a pipe trick and double tapping the kickflip button to perform enhanced flips. I understand they want to make it old school but they could have at least kept those sort of moves to make the movement and combos more fluid. And only giving 90 seconds for the trial? That's just bizarre. Would it have killed them to allow the extra 30 seconds for the track run? Even the original PSOne demo I played way back when gave you the full two minutes.

I haven't played THPSHD, instead opting to just buy a copy of THPS2x (really, why didn't they just port that?) but if they make a "fuller experience" and it gets reviewed better, maybe I'll give it a shot.

The game was flawed, but it did NOT deserve a 4. It deserved a 6 at the worst. 4/10 was the same score GR gave TH Ride, and THPSHD is a lot better than Ride. The physics aren't perfect, but they had to make them from scratch, and I was expecting them to do a much worse job with the physics. I definitely like Robomodo after they made this game. If they made a full-fledged TH game, then it would be really good. The THPS spirit is there, and the graphics are quite good. The new songs were great except for 2 of them, and one of those 2 songs is starting to grow on me. I played the series, starting with the first, since I was 6 years old. I got my first million-point combo a few years afterwards. I enjoyed THPSHD, even though I was annoyed by its glaring flaws. An actual THPS game, made from scratch with Unreal Engine? With levels that aren't direct ports from older games, and are instead made with different physics in mind? Yes Please!

Something less mechanically broken? No, you say? Because Robomodo doesn't do that, right? Okay, I'm gonna keep waiting for the Grind Session HD port that won't ever be made :v

I don't think they realize it sold so well because it's $15 if a "fuller version" means full price retail game, it won't do that well because most people won't pay $60. If game companies lowered the retail price to $30 i think a lot more games would sell more just from impulse buys. Hell look at Steam, every time they have sales you read about people buying games just because their cheap and still haven't even played them by the time the next sale happens.

I would have liked TPHS HD if they had gotten the physics right.
