Hey, happy one-year anniversary Pokémon Monday! QotW: This is gonna be tough... Whenever I ask or get asked about favorite Pokémon, I often exclude starters or game mascots, just because they don't seem like original choices to me. Nonetheless, here are my favorite Pokémon from each region-- Kanto: Hypno; I have really grown fond of this guy. Sure he's not the best Psychic-type out there, but I like the Japanese mythology is based around, and his design. Johto: Smeargle; I didn't start playing Pokémon until I was seven (2004ish), so I never got to experience the Johto region. But I loved the Smeargle on my Emerald game. The ability to teach it almost any move I wanted via sketch is why I love him so much. At age nine, I felt so smart when I used double battles to my advantage, and switched my Smeargle in at just the right time so it could use Sketch right after my Swellow finished using Fly. Flying Smeargle? In my mind, I was a genius. Hoenn: Mudkip; Now like I said, when I'm picking favorite Pokémon, I usually exclude starters. But this is an exception. A very special one. A little after my seventh birthday, I invited my friend over to play. He brought with him his Gameboy SP, and showed me his latest game, Pokémon Ruby. I had heard of Pokémon at the time, but never once played any of the games. He let me start a new file (WITHOUT SAVING, mind you), and I got to pick my starter. And when I laid eyes on Mudkip, I FELL IN LOVE. Ruby was now my must have game, but since my birthday already passed, I had to wait until Christmas. So everyday I’d make sure to remind my parents about Pokémon Ruby and how much I wanted it. Finally, Christmas rolled around, and I was never more excited in my life. I ran downstairs to the tree and saw a wrapped gift with my name on it. The same size as a Gameboy Advance box. I ripped the wrapping paper off of the gift. What I was given after months of asking for Ruby, was Pokémon Fire Red Version. So there went my hopes and dreams. Luckily though, a year later, I got Emerald, and was able to get my Mudkip. I honestly believe that without Mudkip, I would never have become a Pokémon Trainer. Sinnoh: Carnivine; There aren’t a lot of Pokémon that I liked from Gen. 4. Most of them were just new evolutions and legendary Pokémon, so I didn’t feel like there was much originality design-wise. However, I did enjoy the look of Carnivine and his appearance in the anime under the ownership of James (though I honestly only watched the first episode of the DP anime series). Unova: Reuniclus; This guy is one of my all time favorites. Following the CoroCoro leaks of new Pokémon over the summer last year was fun, but there weren’t many new ones that caught my eye. When Reuniclus came around, I was excited. I love his interesting design, and I honestly think he’s adorable! Not only that, but he is great stat-wise and strategy-wise. He is the reason I chose White over Black, and why I love the Unova region.

Its farily affordable, 12.99 for one of the new decks, and it comes with a beta key inside. That beats the price of a new DS game any day, ill provide the link for anyone who wants to play. @rpadTVbsuKenyan5000 Actually I started in gen II with gold, and you are the first person iv'e evercome across that says gen III is the most beloved, but none the less I wanna personally thank you for keeping this little argument friendly.( I wouldn't even call it an argumant, I just lack a better word.) I agree with yuor iew on being hard pressed for a sequal, but keep this in mind, red and blue released on gameboy, remakes FR and LG released on GBA, with GBC in the middle, Gold and Silver released on GBC, and the remake HG and SS released on DS, with GBA in the middle. Mathimatically speaking,( Mathimatically is spelled wrong (possibley) because we ain't talkin bout English, ya hear?)If Ruby and Saphire Released on GBA, will skip DS, and Release on 3ds. Also take note that while still playable, those who lack any GBA, and more Importantly, an fat DS or a DS lite cant play them. Same aplied with G/S/C when DS came out. Just a few connections I might Point out. Also is your name related to running, because it would make my day if it was.

@BackwaterRifle I find a lot of people to be with nostalgia for the generation that they started. Guessing at what generation you started with (third?) it would make sense that you are more attached to that generation. I don't believe that is the case though, as I am guessing you started playing gen one. With that scenario as a possibility perhaps you are more of an advocate of gen 3 because it is generally considered the most well liked. This I can understand completely as I too often find myself standing up for the underdog (sometimes going against popular opinion is rewarding and fun in its own, often hard to explain, way). Having not played this generation yet it is difficult to speculate on the generation's actual quality. Having played all other generations I think it is safe to assume that most people feel since pokemon from that generation are catchable and transferable to both fourth and fifth generations, combined with the known lack of story that pokemon games are notorious for, that the third generation is skip-able. Also, I think the main reason we may be hard pressed to see a gen 3 remake is that the games are technically still compatible with the current gen 5. Through poke-transfer and pokshifting it is possible to trade something all the way up, making a remake essentially useless. First and second generation games needed a remake so that a compatible game for each generation was available on a current gen console. Since this is not the case for gen 3, without regards to the quality of the generation I don't believe a gen 3 remake is coming anytime soon. I now plead the Michael Pachter, just in case.
