Am I the only one that is scared that this will ruin console gaming?
  • xx_CaPTiiN_SpAiiN_zz - August 6, 2012 1 a.m.

on the controllers it would be better to have OUYA instead of OOOO because then it would make sense like the xbox XYAB.

Good idea! So good they're actually doing it, they showed it the other day as part of a redesign.

    oh man thats awesome!

I don't care about it. I play what I want to play quietly and don't criticize others for what they want to play or how they want to play it. If you're excited, that's cool, if you're not, that's cool. I just think the comments on things like this are funny. Super serious shit, yo. People experimenting with new ideas? CAN'T HAVE THAT NOPE NOPE NOPE. ONLY SUPER ELITISTS HERE HURRDURR. Heh. Happy gaming, kids.

I have no opinion on the console. I just want to say that a great many of these comments have spelling and grammar errors, and some english nazi is likely to point these out. Too bad comments don't have spell check(should that be capitalized?).

Main reason I would never buy it? Hacking is encouraged. I'm guessing the people who think this is a good idea have never been played an online game against people who have modded their system for cheat purposes.

Exciting concept. Here's hoping the available games will be similarly compelling.

I'm not even going to consider Ouya until 2014, because then it'll be seen whether it succeeds or not. Hell, the only reason I'd consider it is because it'd be a cheap devkit.

I see Ouya, but I keep thinking ... "PHANTOM!" Remember, guys? The Console That Never Was, back when Microsoft said "hey, we want to be cool like the PlayStation!"?
  • Baleoce - August 1, 2012 10:13 a.m.

I'm remaining sceptical about this console. It is obvious that even with the money that has been raised so far, they will still need investor backing. You can tell that is what they were looking for, because of their initial target of 950k. Are you telling me this could have come to market for 950k? No.. They just want to show potential investors that there is public interest in their product. It takes a *lot* of clout to successfully bring this to market, and it is nowhere near that level yet.

The Ouya's hardware is pitiful. If you already own a modern android phone, you don't need this. Modern android phones have support for controller input, and HDMI out, and Onlive, making this thing completely useless. You can already hook up a "soft-modded" android device to your TV and play "hit games." Android isn't made for games, anyway. What little resources it has are going to be eaten up by the operating system. Also, here's a fun fact: even though it CAN output in 1080p, not many games will actually be running in 1080p. It's like this for all current consoles. Not only that, but anyone with a proper PC has literally no use for this. The whole "I want to support the little guys, the indie devs," thing is just a catch. Not all indie devs are worth supporting, and they already have a platform called the Personal Computer. None of these indie games even require a very good computer. Just use the one you're typing on right now. Odds are, it's probably just as powerful as the Ouya anyway. Same thing for the whole emulation thing. There are more emulators for PC, and better emulators for PC. Unless you have a fossil of a computer, a dumb phone, and have one hundred dollars lying around that can't go to anything else, you shouldn't get the Ouya.

Totally agree with you. Most people that take gaming seriously either have a good PC or a good console, or both (which is my case). The thing is that Ouya will basically be a console with the hardware of a cellphone, which I think we can all agree won't play the latest games like Max Payne 3, GTA IV, Gears of War 3, Halo, etc.
  • zombi3grim - August 1, 2012 7:59 a.m.

I dont like the F2P model. Never have. Thats the only thing that turns me off about this console. Other then that, not much else is really known about it. So all of you here in the comments trying to disprove shit in a list format make yourselves look like fucking amateur egotistical losers. BTW, when the fuck are you going to get out of the 90's? PC gaming is hardly the "all powerful messiah" it once was. Almost everything on PC comes out on consoles months in advance first.
  • CrashmanX - August 1, 2012 9:51 a.m.

Your right. It does. You know why that is? Because companies are paid to. But you know what PCs still have over consoles 10 to 1? Graphics and raw power. My PC is as powerful as an Xbox 360. The only reason it can't play Xbox games is because they're coded specifically to take 100% advantage of it's hardware. Also PC gaming is still the all powerful messiah, consoles are just holding it back.
  • ParagonT - August 1, 2012 11:46 a.m.

I own a console, and I will say that the PC has many advantages over it. I plan to get a more powerful one than my laptop here that's used for college, but that's a way's off. Do I think the PC is better? Nope; do I believe that it's more fitting for me knowing how the next consoles may be? Yep, but that's just me although.
  • zombi3grim - August 1, 2012 8:59 p.m.

Yeah, I notice a huge difference playing Mass Effect 3 on a PC then on a console....I hope you notice the drip of fucking sarcasm pouring off of this. That argument is old as shit. Again, from the 90's. There was a time when the graphics between PC and consoles were huge. But as more money and more time is spent on consoles (because, again, thats where the money is so thats where the focus is) the hardware is getting better and better. So much that you can hardly tell the difference between graphics at all. Yes, PC graphics are better. But its not like comparing SNES and PS3 like alot of people try to do. Its more like comparing DVD and blue ray. The difference is there, but its so fucking minimal that to actually try to use it as an argument only further proves that PC's are falling back.
  • CrashmanX - August 2, 2012 9:31 a.m.

Uhmmm..... no? ME3 was coded on Xbox then ported to PC. That doesn't surprise me in the least when it looks nearly the same. That's like saying "Well Mario looks the same on PC as it does on an NES" yes, that's because it was made specifically for the console then brought over to PC. Now let's talk about games like Skyrim where there's a significant difference. The 360 version runs the PC's default settings of "Low" and "Very Low". My PC which cost about $500 runs Skyrim at "High" at about 60FPS. Which by the way, makes a noticeable difference. Also the diffence between Blu-Ray (Not Blue ray, there's a reason it's named that) and DVD is actually rather significant. The resolution alone is quite shocking and looks better on..... wait for it.... BETTER TVS! Shock I know. You have to upgrade all your hardware to get the most out of it.
  • zombi3grim - August 2, 2012 6:34 p.m.

Oh god, please dont start with your coding and your programming and your fuckin porting and super calibrating and hd analyzing, super quadlateral bullshit. You're not a fuckin programmer and you never will be. Now, Skyrim on PC and Skyrim on an HD TV? Sorry, but again, the difference is minimal. And yes, even at "ultra super high quad roter magnum" pc graphics settings, the difference is STILL hardly noticable. No, BLUE RAY (im not sitting there typing fuckin blu-ray for your satisfaction.) doesnt have this "shocking resolution." Yeah, its clearer. It DOES look better. But honestly, its not replacing DVDs. Its not like the difference between VHS and DVD. THAT was shocking. So if you sit there surrounded by your little BLUE RAY collection and your fuckin gaming pc rig thats built to launch a man to the fuckin moon and you honestly think that your shit has a "significant" leap in picture quality, you need to step back, put down the red bull and cheetos and seriously look at yourself in the mirror. Unfog those quater inch thick glasses, move over your greasy dyed black hair out of your face, squint past the acne and fuckin LOOK at yourself. Your goddamn delusional if you think blue ray and dvd have some HUGE picture difference. Same goes for PC and console. The difference is there. But its so fucking minor as to be almost insignificant.
