    Nintendo welcome to 2006!

I hope they really do something similar to the PSN and XBL for this. I'd love a trophy/achievement system of sorts for Nintendo, even if it's only on the Wii U (though, I'd absolutely LOVE it for the 3DS). The Vita is gonna be awesome, and I hope Nintendo updates the 3DS to be just a fantastic with the features and such.

It's a shame that other companies don't share Nintendo's views on DLC. The world would be a better place if they did. Commenting on the topic at hand though, I really don't care. I don't play games online now, so I doubt that's gonna change anytime soon.

“As a software maker, Nintendo believes that its packaged software should be sold to our consumers in a form so that the consumers will know in advance that they can enjoy playing the software they purchased just as it is. We believe that our consumers will be able to feel more secure if we offer our add-on content as an additional structure in which blah blah blah." This is Iwata's well-articulated, very pretty way of saying that New Smash Bros won't have DLC characters. Sigh.

You guys whine too much, your acting as if an online service is first priority for everything. Anyway, great to see Nintendo finally being to standard points in terms of online, its undermined cause they care more about making games then handling an online system, so its good to see their getting better, keep leveling up Nintendo!

Sorry Big N, but no dice. You've been dropping the ball since the N64, you're going to have to prove you want real gamers back before I even think about buying that plastic brick you claim will be a console.

In all honestly, its the 3rd Parties not being able to use Nintendo's Hardware to make great games, otherwise Nintendo's doing all the work, dont bash em like they WANT no support and doing it on Purpose, the Wii U's Unique Potential and hidden abilities will be welcoming for 3rd Parties to be with Nintendo.

God, you are such an apologist. So the developers that can make a game for every system but the Wii are at fault? Also, hard-ware? These same developers you are talking about most likely started generations ago when 16-bit graphics were the cutting edge, dont even try to say 'it's the hard-ware'. Hidden abilities? What the hell are you talking about? It's not a transformer. It's not a super hero. And what is 'Unique Potential' besides a longer way to say the word 'gimmick'?

Hopefully this will mean the end of friend codes *shudder*.

Welcome to a decade ago Nintendo. GOD! I just had a thought. What if they did the same thing with physical media? BRAND NEW FROM NINTENDO! CD-ROM!
  • comaqi - January 27, 2012 1:35 p.m.

But they already did that with the game cube.
  • BIOSback - January 27, 2012 3:14 p.m.

About a decade late but its better late than never.
  • Zeos - January 27, 2012 12:44 p.m.

About time they wizened up, though I'm sure it'll still include dumb "safety" features that keep it less user friendly than PSN, and Xbox Live.
  • Z-man427 - January 27, 2012 12:12 p.m.

Sounds promising, but so did a lot of things Nintendo has put out in the last decade.
  • badgraphix1 - January 27, 2012 12:06 p.m.

It's about time. Hopefully now we can use logins and not have to worry about a 3DS breaking and losing all the games.
  • badgraphix1 - January 27, 2012 12:08 p.m.

Yes, I realize he mentioned Wii U specifically in the article, but I'm hoping it's something that's used in the 3DS too.
  • cL7oud hero - January 27, 2012 11:59 a.m.
