New RAGE screens look incredible, as expected

We wish we had something to say about RAGE other than, "OMG LOOK AT IT!" We don't really. If you want to know more about its story and gameplay, check out our most recent impressions. Both look solid enough so far, but neither appear to be especially unconventional or mind-blowing. We could be wrong.

What they definitely are, however, is completely overshadowed by id Tech 5, which is capable of producing visuals we can't help but tell you to look at after caps-lock yelling internet shorthand at you.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, because I've been given free rein to write whatever I feel like and there's nothing you can do to stop me: these screens are no joke. Last year I was floored after seeing the game running on an Xbox 360 in person. That was an awkward sentence. It sounds like I saw the game running on an Xbox 360 that someone ate. I could fix it, or just acknowledge the mistake and get on with telling you OMG LOOK AT THESE NEW RAGE SCREENS!

Above: See the rest of the screens all big-like in our screenshot viewer

The characters are especially lovely, though you really need to see them in action. The animations are stylized - they're not perfectly natural - but they're smooth and expressive, and the performers exude a certain je ne sais quoi that makes them believable and engrossing. You can see a bit of what I'm talking about in the 2009 QuakeCon trailer below.

RAGE is scheduled to release September 13, 2011 in North America, and September 15 in Europe. Get ready for some fancy pixels.

Don't worry, brother Zepaw. I actually played it a tiny bit last E3. There's more to like than the graphics, fo' sho'.
  • Zepaw - January 27, 2011 6:34 a.m.

That screen screams Fable to me. The only things I have ever heard about this game are how good it is supposed to look, but somehow I am interested.

Tyler got his Foghorn Leghorn on. "I will - I say - I will laugh..."

Jeesh, @CH3BURASHKA, calm the f*ck down.
  • GamesRadarTylerWilde - January 27, 2011 3:03 a.m.

@CH3BURASHKA Also, don't tell me what to do, how to do my job, or how I'm allowed to have fun, or I will - and I'm serious - I will laugh for a while, then go home and watch TV.

@Tyler: If you're using them in published articles, then yes, you must be naive as hell. You may not know this, but so blatantly announcing your association with 4chan is fucking lame. Similarly, newscasters talking about "Anonymous" is fucking lame. This is basically the same. Yes, the game is called RAGE. We get it. That still doesn't justify this atrocity. Reddit is JUST as lame. So according to you, 4chan is for: -14 year olds -gangs of adolescents -bored college kids yet you're the only one I know who does shit like this. Knock it the fuck off.
  • FullMetalAntista - January 27, 2011 2:45 a.m.

Typical of my ignorance, I used to think this was some cheap knockoff of Fallout and Borderlands, but after seeing the stage demo and looking at these screens, I'll admit I was wrong. Although this concept is borderline generic, it looks fantasticly epic.
  • GamesRadarTylerWilde - January 27, 2011 2:36 a.m.

@CH3BURASHKA Just discovered? How you think me so naive? :P The game is called RAGE. What am I supposed to do? Rage comics are everywhere, anyway (heard of Reddit?). Also, I'm not 14 and don't care much about the rules of a gang of adolescents and bored college students.
  • CH3BURASHKA - January 27, 2011 2:24 a.m.

From the limited amount we've seen of Rage, I've been most impressed with the character models. I wouldn't say they're "realistic", but they're stylized in a very appealing, natural, believable way. I can't wait to see them in motion, how animation and voice and the model all come together to make a person I can relate to or understand. And Tyler, I swear to all the gods, if you ever use another 4chan-related image in one of your articles I will personally drive all the way down to California and strangle you with my bare hands. I don't know if you've only recently discovered it or something, but the quicker you get it, the better: the Fight Club rules apply. Violators will be punished.
  • Spybreak8 - January 27, 2011 2:23 a.m.

Gosh darn it Gamesradar, it's going to be a long wait. I see a bit of Bioshock in this game.
  • RamenChimera - January 27, 2011 2:10 a.m.

Honestly, this game doesn't really impress me... fallout/borderlands, with improved graphics. Crysis 2's graphics seem better than this to me. And if they have an engine to run incredibly advanced graphics, why in a wasteland with tons of HD dirt and sand? Then again, I know barely anything about this game, so i'm probably wrong aabout all of that.
  • H2A2I00 - January 27, 2011 2:02 a.m.

TOO MUCH WANT I'm definitely picking this one up i have high hopes for this title
