New Mortal Kombat announced with testicle-cleaving trailer

Hot on the heels of yesterday’s live-action Mortal Kombat movie “pitch” comes the announcement of a new Mortal Kombat game, slated for a 2011 release on PS3 and 360.  This trailer was included with the announcement, and shows fans what to expect from the game’s revamped 2D fighting engine.

The press release also trumpets the return to “mature presentation,” so we fully expect some serious blood and guts and skeletons to be flying across the screen. Mortal Kombat’s creator, Ed Boon is leading the development team and is promising a return to the series’ roots. Based on this trailer, the game looks pretty far along – we can only hope they’ll let us play it next week at E3!

This seems extremely awesome, I've never had higher expectations for a 2D game made into 3D. They better do something good this time.

I'd rather have an HD remake of MK: Shaolin Monks

People... seriously, do your goddamn research before you make stupid comments. Wow... just... wow.

I haven't really enjoyed an MK game since UMK3, so the fact that this reminds me of that is a very good thing.

Oh that's what you meant by testicle cleaving.
  • BawBagMcRae - June 10, 2010 11 p.m.

Saaweeeeeeeeeet! Looks like all the stages from the original games are all there too. As long as they don't include those stupid bloody friendship, anamailty and babailty finishing moves, I'll be sold!

YES! Its about time they went back to what made the originals so great. No gimmicky barely maneuverable 3D environments, no more lousy my player/my story modes. Straight up brutal MK goodness made by the only guy that we know can deliver.

    OMG, I came. Shao Kahn!!!!
  • Blue2 - June 10, 2010 9:23 p.m.

I'm not so big in fighters then the next guy but i must say, vary epic.
  • R-Ape - June 10, 2010 7:58 p.m.

FINALLLY!. hmmm I wonder if the roster will be good? I mean, you have the characters from MK3, and Shao Kahn. Can't wait for the game! It will be very interesting to see how things play out

    the good times are back!

Lame... I was kind of hoping that the whole Youtube video thing was the goddamn movie... This'll release and fail like the last 2 games just because, well, how many people would want to stop playing Street Fighter, Tekken, Soul Caliber, BlazBlue and Hell, even the original 2D Mortal Kombat's just to play this one? I love the series, but seriously... unless this game comes out and re-energizes the series like Street Fighter 4 did, I highly doubt this will make as much of a splash as that "movie pitch" would have... sorry.

WOWWWW that was awesome, particularly the last fatality. I'm syked.
  • Vitoruss1 - June 10, 2010 7:25 p.m.

Oh, and there was no Liu Kang, Scorpion, and Johnny Cage is still alive... (with his blonde hair, too) I'm kind of confused as if this is the same project as the "realistic" movie, or if maybe there's a movie in the works, too? Confusing stuff...
  • Vitoruss1 - June 10, 2010 7:22 p.m.

I guess the whole "realism" angle was scrapped? I was kind of excited for that :-/
  • garfunkling - June 10, 2010 6:52 p.m.

I could be wrong but wasn't the last one trumpeted as the LAST ONE? Thats why they had so many fighters. Whatever, moneys money i guess

    OMG!!!
