Mortal Kombat demo koming next week for PlayStation Plus members, later for everyone else

Warner Bros. and NetherRealm Studios have announced that a Mortal Kombat demo will be released on March 8 exclusively for PlayStation Plus members (this PS Plus thing is turning out to be a valuable asset, 'aint it?). The demo will become available for all PSN members on March 15, and for XBL users "later" - sorry 360 owners, that's all they wrote.

The demo will feature four fighters, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Mileena and Johnny Cage, two arenas, the Living Forest and the Pit, and a one or two player arcade ladder. If for some reason you've forgotten what Mortal Kombat is, check out a recent trailer below:

Mortal Kombat is out for 360 and PS3 on April 19. We've probably written a few things about the game, and I suggest that you read them, because if you don't, you might know fewer things about it, and all your friends will laugh at you when you load up the demo and mistakenly forget to make a joke about Mortal Kombat: The Album, or mention the upcoming live-action web series. What embarrassment!

As a 360 user who always reaps the benefits of timed exclusives I should not complain but... Timed exclusives really do suck, I hate them. Everyone should get everything the same day, all these companies are doing is just feeding flame wars and fan boys. Im a fan of the games... not the consoles. In fact, I purchased a 360 only because at the time it had Oblivion. And i'm a fan of Mortal Kombat, and the sooner I get to play it the better. Enjoy it Ps3 Plus users, you guys deserve to be on the good end this time.

Timed exclusives are just one of those little perks that gives premium service users a sense of justification for paying those yearly membership fees, providing something tangible (if one can call digital content downloads tangible in any way)to show for the added expense besides superior maintainence of the online service. This time, Sony and its PSN+ users reap the benefits rather than Microsoft's XboxLive premium users. If this happens enough, PlayStation 3 players might change their position on both paying for premium service packages and timed exclusives. For people who have both HD console systems, it just means that they will download the demo on one machine over the other (if they feel the need to pay for both premium service packages). If they're clever, the Fatalities will be locked or significantly altered in the demo. You should never give away the best stuff for free! Just give them enough to get them hooked (maybe all of the demo's fatalities should be built around meat hooks of various kinds?).

Has the demo been banned in Australia too? I needs to find a new country to live in methinks. Stupid kangaroos.

This is why I hated the idea of PS Plus from the start. I knew this shit would happen - that they would start holding back content for the non-Plus users. It's annoying.

(rant)This is just Sony's way of getting back at Microsoft for getting maps early on CoD. I agree with Outlander, though. Timed exclusives can go die! Retail pre-order bonuses should be on the disk, not DLC. If they have time to add gear for pre-orders for 5 diferent places, it should just be on the disk. (/rant)

jeez, if I had the cash I'd totally get the PS Plus package, oh well, good things comes to those who wait

I was originally sad about us 360 owners just getting a "later." But I guess I cannot complain because it seems more often than not my Ps3 buddies are the ones who get the shaft in terms of timed exclusives. I say it when the 360 gets them so I'll say it again now that the ps3 has one, TIMED EXCLUSIVES CAN DIE. Retail pre-order bonuses can die too.

I'm definitely not regretting my PS Plus purchase :)
