Minecraft madman genius builds all of Planet Earth in-game

Minecraft players, I'm rapidly coming to understand, are a very special kind of mental. Not a bad kind, mind. They're unlikely stab you up in the street because your scarf looked at them funny, and I highly doubt we'll ever see a mass ritual suicide of cultists in the name of block building enterprise. But mental they are all the same. Mad in the face.

You have a game that lets you build anything. What do you make? How about everything? A chap by the name of roddds469 (interesting Christening, by all accounts) has done just that, creating a scale model of the whole goddamn planet. And he's driven around its skies in a minecart to show it off. You know you need to see this.

Fear not for noble roddds though. He did not build this thing brick-by-brick, via frequent trips outside to check the elevation of the horizon. That way would lie actual brain capsize. No, he imported a NASA topography map for all of the terrain height details, and then made a few tweaks. Still though, a ludicrous achievement, and one he's keen to build on.

This you see, is just the prototype stage. Roddds plans to re-make the map "on a larger scale", so the Lord only knows what he's going to pull out next. Hopefully a full-sized Earth with a full-sized star-base floating next to it for that full-sized Enterprise to dock at. And Rapture in the sea. That would make me happy.

I get that they come up like crazy stalagmites because it's supposed to be above sea level...But it just looks strange. He need to delete some blocks or something...Or get an army of Miners to come help.

Ah I thought it was going to be more impressive than that.. It's good, but you can't walk around it with it being so pointy :( Apparently a MC map can stretch on for enough blocks to make the Earth's surface 8 times over.. a real Earth is possible.. and that way madness lies.

This is nuts (in a good way), I'd love to see a larger version though; it looks very vertical at the moment. Also there are sheep in the Himalayas! Not too sure why I found that funny but I did.

Super Mario 64 seems like a prime candidate for the Minecraft treatment. So anyone with Skillz that Killz ought to make it.
