Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance gets another cryptic trailer

I'm not 100% sure what's going on with this teaser, I'll admit. I'm not the HUGEST Metal Gear nut, and I don't know EVERYTHING about the story, but no-one else has really offered many observations yet, so I guess I can give it a shot. Honestly, I got basically nothing. The only thing I really picked out was him saying that they're the "TRUE Sons of Liberty", which harks back to the second game. I'm assuming none of the original Sons of Liberty are going to be involved, since they're all dead now (although, that hasn't stopped Vamp OR Big Boss in the past) so could some of them make a return? I'd especially like to see Vamp returning as a cyborg in a style similar to what Raiden is now. Or, is it just that the plot's going to involve the new president trying to use a Metal Gear to, y'know, be evil? I don't know. Someone else do some cleaning up of these ideas and make it into something coherent, please?

Hahahah, hahaha, haha... "reiterating some of the critiques of American government and politics that were found in Vanquish" HA! HA! HA! HOOOOOOOOO... man. Boy, you crack me up man. I mean... seriously... let's go over that again... "reiterating some of the critiques of American government and politics that were found in Vanquish" Really? Seriously... Vanquish was about an Eastwoodian chain-smoking hard-ass who used a shape-shifting gun and a badass bullet-time and rocket-slide power suit to blast apart ridiculous hordes of humanoid Communist robots... in space. On a space station colony... capable of blasting cities on Earth below with giant heat rays of death, for some reason. I don't see why that was included as a feature. Look, I love the game enough to understand there was some underlying message about the corruption of those in power, but... did you just read the above description? Really now, to argue that Vanquish was channeling some kind of in-depth argument about being wary of corruption of power and perhaps the futility of war and all that - much like saying the Transformers movies were bad - is sorely missing the point. The point being? Explosions. Giant robots. Huge guns and lasers and shape-shifting technology and all that badass stuff. That's the point. I now realize that I may have compared Vanquish to the Transformers movies, but you must realize, in spite of Vanquish being infinitely superior to any of Michael Bay's little darlings, their raison d'etre is the same... explosions. That ends my unnecessary deluge. I'm sorry I couldn't help but elaborate.

I understand what you mean. And yeah, Vanquish's plot and characterization is pretty thin, and all it's just an excuse for you to cause explosion and kill the shit out of robots and look cool while doing it. SPOILERS AHEAD That being said, as thin as the plot might be, there IS a very un-subtle critique and attack of the American government, you just need to look at the action of President Winters, which is very easy to make a link that the creators think it's feasible that an American president could be capable of doing something of the sort, or they have already done it. It's not a very subtle critique, it's not a very deep critique, and it's definitely not a smart critique, but it's a critique nonetheless.

But the story of Vanquish was about the American President Not-Hillary Not-Clinton trying to start a world war with Russia to spur economic growth from a depression caused by over population (Building a 51st state in space that was half death ray probably also had something to do with it). And the fact that Sam Gideon (main character) was like old Clint calls parallels to the the the westerns he was famous for and the initial disillusionment of the American Dream that followed the taming of the wild west (see Red Dead and the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly - ect.) Thus Gideon is a cipher for America's "cowboy" attitude, that we can solve anything to the point that we create our own problems to solve them reguardless to the effect this may have on a larger scale. The Russian's in Vanquish used this pomposity against us to create a proxy war where the only casualties were on the American side (all the Ruskies were robits). Thus our scheming to fuck over someone else was turned against us and proved only to hurt the US. This resulting failure lead to President Not-Clinton killing herself because she had committed political suicide so why not finish herself off literary as well? Political suicide = literal suicide; therefore politics are reality they can not be separated the games that are played have real consequences. I'm sure if I gave it more thought than this free writing I could make it sound better but I think my point has gotten across that there was something more to Vanquish than Transformers, give me a minute and I could probably contrive some philosophical mean to that too. BUT ANY WAYS METAL GEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lolviral. The main site is pretty interesting though, something abiut trying to hack data out of a cyborg's arm (hacking an arm, ic wut they did thar.) and some binary that translated to one of Raiden's famous lines.

Also on the main site, were links to 2 more worthwhile videos. I don't know about your guys' link policy, so just search "make it right ARM" and EYE trailers on youtube (Konami's channel.) Looks like someone got a hold of Jack AGAIN.

The word "revengeance" is like nails on a chalkboard to me.

Really? The more I hear it, the more I want to play it. it suggests that they're really not taking themselves too seriously with it, and that's the way Platinum do best.

Yeeeep, hammy acting typical of platinum games alright. These videos are small entertainment, and they work alright. But where's more actual gameplay videos? Hopefully we'll see the real deal on E3.
