Max Payne 3 isn't all about the guns. It's about using said guns at point-blank range, or swinging from the rafters while pumping holes into dudes in cargo shorts. It's also about shooting from the hip and duel wielding in the rain. True, we neglected to mention these things in our “11 things you need to know about Max Payne 3” feature, but Rockstar has corrected the oversight with the release of four new screenshots.

Going by these latest screens and last month's gameplay trailer (above), Max's parrot shirt will be one of the main stars of the upcoming sequel. Don't let his colorful facade fool you, though. As art director Rob Nelson told us back in November, Mr. Payne is as tortured and curmudgeony as ever: “We just wanted to make something that felt very natural and plausible for Max as a character. A number of years have passed. He's drinking a lot, he's spending a lot of time in bars, and he's abusing himself pretty bad.”

See Max run, swing, and decimate eyeballs on PS3, Xbox, and PC on May 15 in North America, and May 18 in the UK, where the PC version will arrive a little behind schedule on June 1.

Sweet Jebus, it looks like Rockstar is gonna hit it out of the park on this one. Cannot. Freaking. Wait.

My most anticipated game this year so far. Seems like Rockstar is just as good at on-rails shooters as they are at open-world ones.

    Max Payne isn't on-rails!

Damn this looks better and better! I am actually glad they pushed this back. Gives me time to finish ME3 and Silent Hill without having to rush them.
