I hope that enemy giving up at the end isn't like Skyrim, where they shout "Enough! I yield!" but try to kill you anyway once their health goes back up a little if you let them live.

The game looks a bit "I am alive" ish, but the graphics are amazing. I wish Bethesda would buy this engine for Fallout 4, and then go back and remake Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3 and New Vegas with it.

i dont think clicker is the zombie type bad guys, i think it's refereeing to "Tourist's"(what the bad guys in that city call people they rob and kill as they pass through there town) who are out of ammo. when the bad guy hears the click of the gun he says "i know that sound." so i think a clicker will most likly be a "tourist" who has no ammo and just pretends his gun is full till.....click.then they prolly get shot in the face.

I seem to have issues with how much is scripted and how much is actuall gameplay. The game looks amazing, dont get me wrong. Its just it would be waaay more awsome if those events werent scripted and it actually just reacted to how you played. I could just be getting my hopes up.

It's funny you say that considering that you like Call of Duty. Games don't get more scripted than them.
  • zombi3grim - June 7, 2012 4:12 p.m.

I dont seem to remember if I said scripting was bad or not. I seem to remember posting that I have issues with not being able to tell what is scripted and what isnt. Reading comprehension FTW.
  • gilgamesh310 - June 7, 2012 4:22 p.m.

You said the game would be way more awesome if the events weren't scripted. Congradulations you've just contradicted yourself.
  • zombi3grim - June 7, 2012 6:20 p.m.

It would be MORE awsome. So where did I say it would be bad if it wasnt? Not only do you need a reading comprehension lesson, you also need a dictionary. A thesaurus probably wouldnt hurt either. Matter of fact, why dont you just take your ass back to school all together. Im too much for you. Waaay above your pay grade, little man.

You strike me as being about ten years old and are just looking to prove something to other people so I', not going to give you the satisfaction of arguing with you anymore.
  • zombi3grim - June 8, 2012 2:15 p.m.

Yeah, you do that. Next time you try to start an argument with me, dont make yourself look like a dumbass. Have a nice day, :)

I like the death animations a lot. They are far grittier and more realistic than the way Nathan Drake goes a round snapping necks with an overexagerrated snapping sound, before he delivers some cocky one liner. You really feel like you are draining the life out of them here. The guns seem to pack a bit of wallop and stealth actually seems viable here, unlike in Uncharted. I'm quite interested in this.

I'm gonna disagree with number 5. The health bar bugged the hell out of me. TLoU is still very much the demo of the show but the health bar alone kept on being a focus point throughout the entire combat sequence. It seemed very anti-cinematic and uncharacteristic of ND. I also did not like how it seems to tip off combat. Kind of anti-suspense.

The poster kind of looked like that one from one of the Twilight movies. Just Edward replaced with a Wolf. I noticed that when Ellie and Joel came through the one widow just before killing the first bad guy that they broke some glass and the bad guys seemed like they did not notice it (despite being like 15 feet away). Is there any chance that they will make the AI more sensitive to random environment sounds that the player creates? Does this game have a solid release date or is it still up in the air? Is there any chance that there will be coop were someone plays as Joel and the other as Ellie? Will Ellie have a greater purpose to the game play or will she effectively act like an improved version of Ashley from RE-4? Is it me or is Ellie the really short for 14? I just have to ask. Why are there rarely any female bad guys in post disaster games? (Excluding Fallout) What woman can’t try and kill you or did they all just die off? In any case this game looks and feels awesome. Can’t wait to hear more. Ty for the article.

I noticed the poster at the beginning of the demo and it highlighted when he looked at it for a moment. I was hoping he'd interact with it so I could see what would happen.

I can see why people could wonder if those moments mentioned above are scripted, and they very well might be. But they didn't feel like it. I mean, speaking about the bashing enemies into objects, it's just a case of context sensitive combat and something uncharted 3 already did. If Drake was near a bottle or usable object, he grabbed and smashed the enemy with it, same principle easily applies here as well. As for the gun clicking and hostage taking. It's also easy to see how this can be applied into the AI's intelligence without that much difficulty. The moment the AI spots you holding an enemy serves as a prompt for the AI to turn passive, the moment you point a gun at them, it's another prompt for them to run into cover. Same with the empty gun clicking. Enemy hears this, it' s a prompt to turn aggressive and go after you. I don't really see the need to make any of that scripted. And the thing with ellie also follows this principle. I'm pretty sure that had you killed that guy yourself with a bullet, she'd have never thrown the brick. Probably actions like that are only to occur if certain conditions are met. Such as if the enemy is alone, and if it walks into ellie's range of view.

This game looks amazing and will be a buy when it does come out.
  • IsaacShadow - June 6, 2012 8:05 a.m.

One thing I noticed was pretty smooth and natural feeling movement. When Joel goes back, the doesn't suddenly do a 360, he just walks backwards a bit. When when he is moving close to a wall, he'll put his hand on it for a bit of balance. It looks remarkable
  • ThatFanInThePeacoat - June 6, 2012 7:40 a.m.

Wow. This game looks amazing. I really like how it was presented; just gameplay, no nonsense. Additionally, the statement, "we know the viral infection is caused by a fungus" doesn't really make sense. Viruses can be carried by a fungus, but they aren't made by the fungus, per se. Cordyceps sinensis, which you mention in your linked article, does seem to be what the infection is based on. In which case, perhaps it does infect other mammals, such as dogs, since fungi can be less specific when it comes to hosts. Viruses are much more specific, and it takes much more for a strain to move from one species to the next (birdflu, swineflu, SIV to HIV...) But then again, it's fiction, and I really won't complain if Naughty Dog makes a few errors in the name of good storytelling.
  • Wasting_Light - June 6, 2012 1:11 a.m.

I'm absolutely excited for this game but the amount of times the author asked if a sequence was scripted or not kinda has me worried.
  • DyranLK - June 6, 2012 12:37 a.m.

Naughty Dog has already stated that everything was AI-driven, actually, stressing the element of choice and how it blends in with the NPC's reaction to said choice -- hell, they even said you could've avoided this whole confrontation and just continue onto the next level of the hotel without any fighting whatsoever, which I thought was pretty sweet. But, personally, I thought it was really exciting to hear that practically none of this was scripted (including Ellie throwing the brick at the guy or the same guy coming out of cover after hearing Joel's gun click) and that you could truly approach it in different ways. They also said that the camera automatically moved in to convey the best cinematic position possible, which I thought was another small, but pleasant, touch. Overall, I'm really lookin' forward to this game, especially after the incredible showing in the previous day, 'ey.
