Infinity Blade III launching alongside iPhone 5S next week

Epic Games debuted Infinity Blade III alongside Apple's new iPhone 5S today. The "epic conclusion of the Infinity Blade trilogy" takes advantage of the smartphone's improved power to run five times faster than on iPhone 5, Chair Entertainment founder Donald Mustard said.

Infinity Blade III will star two main characters who can explore huge regions between classic swipe-and-tap battles, as opposed to the limited scenes of Infinity Blade I and II. Thanks to iPhone 5S' OpenGL ES 3.0 support, Chair can add "lens flares that would make J.J. Abrams proud," Mustard said.

It will launch just before iPhone 5S on Sept. 18. Check out the trailer below for your first look at the game in action.

I loved Infinity Blade 1, but I found Infinity Blade 2 to be very boring. Hopefully this one is better.

I can't believe i'm actually excited for a mobile game. I just hope my ipad 2 can run it. Btw, whatever happened to the prequal game they announced?

I'm reading Infinity Blade: Awakened right now, so it should be interesting to see where the story goes from here.

There is a limit to how much gaming power a phone needs, the best games on phones are things like Plants Vs Zombies and Final Fantasy. Trying to recreate console experiences on a platform where you have to cover part of your viewing area with your thumbs is never much fun. Rather have a Vita or 3DS over this. Not iPhone bashing as I love playing games on mine, however this isn't the way forward.

Darn it. I only just beat the first game. Guess I'd better get started on 2 if I want to get to 3 eventually.

I don't know about that. Personally, I see a time when traditional PCs, consoles, and handhelds are obsolete because what we used to call phones will be powerful pocket computers that are also capable of making phone calls.

Don't get me wrong, IB 1 & 2 are great, but this is too much. To be honest smart phones already are powerful pocket computers that can make phone calls.
