The makers of Indie Game: The Movie (IGTM, for cool people) are riding high from their appearance at Sundance, following news that their game making documentary has been selected by HBO to be the inspiration for a half-hour television series. That doesn't mean it's actuallygoing to be made into a series, as much of the stuff HBO options never makes it onto the screen, but we're still holding out hope that this one makes it to a pilot at least.
“IGTM Sitcom is the opposite of what we just made & are trying to accomplish,” tweeted filmmakers James Swirsky and Lisanne Pajot of BlinkWorks Media.
Discussing the project on their Facebook page, the pair wrote: “The people involved, the network involved - all are, BY FAR, the best people possible to make this show...We are ecstatic about the possibilities of working with this team. All you need to do is look at the list of HBO series titles & Scott Rudin’s IMDB and you can see why we think this is a brilliant thing. We want to see this show happen. We want to watch this show.”
IGTM debuted at the Sundance Film Festival on January 19. The doc follows notable independent game developers as they attempt to break into the industry without going broke or insane in the process. It stars a slew of familiar faces including Braid's Jonathon Blow, Super Meat Boy's Team Meat, FEZ's Phil Fish, and Superbrothers: Sword and Sorcery musician Jim Guthrie.
