This is how to sell Soulcalibur V

Japanese advertisement highlights upcoming fighting game’s two big selling points

Words: on January 5, 2012

Advertisements promoting Soulcalibur V have begun appearing in mainstream papers in Japan, like Nikkan Sports, reports Andriasang. Highlighting the swollen bosom of Ivy, the ad says “This spring, your chest swells with anticipation,” and promotes the title’s upcoming Japan release on February 2. Also released by Namco Bandai today, is a new video of the game’s opening cinematic. You can behold both below.

Above: We would’ve gone with Voldo. Maybe that’s why we’re not in marketing

What the ad doesn’t tell you is that Soulcalibur V will release on January 31 in North America and on February 3 in Europe. It also doesn’t tell you much about how the game plays. For more details on that, check out our latest .

Lol, of course, this is from the East. Nothing has changed, big boobed chicks and very powerful characters getting, wait for it (no no really wait for it), more powerful. It's over 9000!

was wondering how this would make the splash in western news. I followed the game director's twitter, the english version of ad replaces the text with "go big or go home". and Ivy's definitely not going home.

Just drop all pretences, eh Namco? But c'mon, Ivy's a joke. There are far better characters to use than her. Personally, I'd go for a massive close up of Voldo's codpiece.

As a straight female, I long for the day they make a game ad that focuses on the big bulge between the man's legs. That would make me buy anything. lol

Seriously, us women want and crave eye candy, we just need to demand it more.
