THQ continued slashing their budget today as theyannouncedthat the once highly-anticipated game Insane (perhaps better known as inSANE,) which was slated to be directed by famed filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro, has been outright canceled.
CEO Jason Rubin said today that Insane is simply not part of THQ's "core business model" anymore, along with Facebook and mobile games. Since Rubin took over the reins of THQ last month the corporation has been massively restructuring to focus more on hardcore games.
All rights for the Insane franchise have been passed back to Del Toro with Rubin commenting that the game was still very early in production despite being announced over eighteen months ago. This means that Del Toro will still be able to seek out another publisher to fund the game if he chooses.
Rubin commented that this will not affect any of THQ's studios or result in any further layoffs. Although from the sound of things, not many people were really working on this game anyway.
