Guess the game from the sound effect

From the Star Wars lightsaber to the Wilhelm Scream, the best sound effects become the stuff of legend. Videogames are no exception. But instead of just showing you the ones we think are the most recognisable and legendary, we thought we'd give you a little quiz.

Check out the sound clips below, then head on over to the next pages where we'll reveal which game each one is from. Have fun!

  • LionheartAce - October 10, 2008 4:57 p.m.

  • Vordus - October 10, 2008 11:13 a.m.

  • Eazy-E - October 10, 2008 1:07 a.m.

  • Samael - October 10, 2008 12:01 a.m.

Awesome article. I only managed a few of them though. Never played enough classic games.
  • ShadowGHX - October 9, 2008 11:05 p.m.

It was a nice article, but it was somewhat boring.
  • Y2Ken - October 9, 2008 5:41 p.m.

Think I did pretty well, I got about 18-20 of them. Good fun though!
  • kaythanksbye2 - October 9, 2008 3:52 p.m.

Some of these were pretty easy, but cool article nonetheless!
  • cricket0 - October 11, 2008 2:40 p.m.

I could only guess half of them... but i can imitate the PAC-MAN death thing amazingly.
  • thochaos - October 11, 2008 6:40 a.m.

What the hell? How are you guessing them? Are all 25 clips supposed to play at the same time? Or does just this not work in Opera?
  • oldpee - October 11, 2008 12:49 a.m.

Fun Stuff , i had forgotten most of them thanks for the memories
  • GamesRadarChrisAntista - October 10, 2008 10:44 p.m.

I f-ing loved this! Despite missing an embarrassing number of clips, I demand to see another one. Pleaze, Towell?!
  • peteypablo2624 - October 10, 2008 5:25 p.m.

awesome article. i knew a lot of them except the older games. nothing beats the sound of a grenade landing next to someone in CoD4!
  • bioshocker - October 10, 2008 2:04 a.m.

I only recognised the Donkey Kong sound be the music in the backround
  • Ravenbom - October 10, 2008 1:49 a.m.

Pretty much the only real reward for finding secrets in most games is that "little pat on the back because you're clever" noise from Zelda and Tomb Raider, etc... Made me feel clever for clicking on this article.
  • GR_JustinTowell - October 9, 2008 10:30 p.m.

Hey... LuckyNumbr73 - is that a ZZ Top reference? I seem to remember Zoe Ball asking the band how many albums they would make and which number they'd stop at and Billy Gibbons said "Lucky number seven...ty three". Might just be coincidence :P
