Got questions about the cancelled Mega Man Legends 3? Ask the only journalist to ever play it

When Capcom unexpectedly cancelled Mega Man Legends 3 last month, fans flooded the internet with questions. What went wrong? Why was the publisher abandoning a project it’d announced only one year earlier? Was the community to blame since this was partially a community- developed games? Was this the end of Mega Man, period? We don’t know - not yet.

But here’s the most important question, and one we can easily answer for you: What was the game actually like?

Nintendo Power’s Chris Hoffman happens to be the only journalist to ever play Mega Man Legends 3 before its cancellation, and he also happens to work right down the hall from GamesRadar.     1. What are the missions in the Prototype version, besides defending the town from Reaverbots, defeating the Bonne Mech, and capturing Servbots on a bike? 2. Is the world free-roam? (Can you enter the ruins whenever you want, etc.) 3. Are there stores in the game in which you can buy stuff? If there is, what can you buy? 4. How are the Bright Bats and the Casketts connected? 5. Does it mention anything about the "Elder System" If it does, what? If not; why are the Reaverbots attacking Teomo city? Does it mention why? 6. Was there anything it did WRONG? graphics, controls, etc. 7. How similar did it feel to the previous Legends titles (If you've played them)? 8: How did special weapons work? (Could you purchase new ones, and how were they selected/used?). 9: Was there voice acting? How much of the game was voice acted?

    Was there already someone talking in game of bringing Megaman back? What was the role of the Bonne family in the demo, if they appeared in it?

    1) Was there any indication that it was rushed, I understand that you may not have played the latest build, but were there any glaring issues? 2) Some say that the project had very little chance even from the start, others think that the results of the devroom project, specifically the small number of registered members might have been the main reason for cancellation. I understand that you don't have any concrete information on this but I'm sure everyone would be interested in your opinion. 3) The article says that your the only journalist to play the prototype, is there a specific reason for this? I think everyone else already covered everything else, thanks for your time.

    My questions are almost entirely plot-related: 1.) How does Mega Man get home? Also, is it ever explained why the Bonnes are trying to rescue him, or has Tron finally admitted her feelings for Mega Man? 2.) Was the Elder System that was referenced "waking up" following the demise of the Master System at the end of Megaman Legends 2 ever alluded to in the prototype version? 3.) How does Aero and the others come to meet / know Mega Man and become involved? Do the Bonnes hurt both Mega Man and Barrett on a dig or something? 4.) The basic plot of the first game was a quest to find the Mother Lode and to repair the Flutter. Likewise, the second game's plot revolved around Roll's mother, the Master System, Sera and Yuna, and the Mother Lode. What was the main plot for this game? 5.) The first game's main villain was Mega Man Juno, who we didn't learn about until the very end. The second game's main villain was Sera, who we got some character build-up for before eventually fighting her. Was it apparent who was going to be the main villain for this game? 6.) Did we learn anything new about the creators of the Systems and why they thought it was necessary to create these systems (Master, Elder) / carbon reinitialization programs? Were these created to bring about destruction (as hinted in MM ZX Advent), or simply to repopulate the planet in the event of its destruction? Did we learn anything more about the Master and Elysium? 7.) Did Bola, Klaymoor, or Glyde from Mega Man Legends 2 make any appearances? If so, what role did they serve in the game? Likewise, what about Roll's mother, Matilda? Are they ever reunited, or is Yuna in permanent possession of her? Does she even make an appearance? 8.) Is there any chance that a leaked version of the canceled prototype will make its way onto the web like the canceled Starfox 2 did for SNES? If not, is there any chance we'd ever see a walkthrough for the unreleased demo to get some idea as to what it was actually like? 9.) Where is Barrell? What is his relation to Barrett? 10.) How far along was Legends 3? Was it only a couple of levels, or was this almost complete? 11.) Does Mega Man get any further access to his past memories from Data?

    1.) How did the controls feel? Would there be anything that you would change? 2.) Did the gameplay feel similar to past Legends games (if you've played them)? Was it enjoyable? 3.) Were there any flaws that you found, either gameplay wise or technical/bugs? Any changes you would make? 4.) Were you able to try out the Debug Room? 5.) Is there anything story or character-wise (speaking of which, did they have voices?) or anything else that we didn't know beforehand that you learned from playing the game? 6.) Were you able to interact with anyone & go into shops, buy things, & such? 7.) How was the 3D effect? 8.) What kind of missions were there? & how much was there to do?

    1.) What do you think the outcome would've been had the prototype actually released? (Considering the majority of players that would want to are true fans and people who actually would play with a 3DS for over an hour.) 2.) Should MML3 have started out for the 3DS? 3.) Does MMVolnutt still 'kick' it? 4.) Did voice acting play a majority of the prototype? (Was it also the same VA's from the previous games?) 5.) Because of the cancellation, would we see MegaMan 64 on the Wii Virtual Console anytime soon? (Or RockMan Dash for the PSP?) 6.) Does it have better camera controls than the previous titles? (How is it utilized?) 7.) Is the Legends series dead as a whole? Thank you Chris for actually taking in my questions and not trying to kill me for hassling the Hoff. UP UP AND AWAY!!!

    What, if any, are the chances of a Legends game being started up anywhere in the future? Seeing as how people at Capcom had mentioned that the Mega Man franchise itself was not being killed off I'm hoping they either bring back X or Legends, anything but that Battle Network crap. Thank you!

    How did How did the game hold up in comparison to the first two (main) Legends games? Did it capitalize on it? Was the game complete, or complete enough to be released? Thank you for your time.

    Being as most people have abandoned the idea of Mega Man Legends 3 ever being released in any form, do you believe that says something about the Mega Man fanbase and/or gamers in general? Do you still have a glimmer of hope that Legends 3 may be released (in any fashion)? Did the cancellation of Legends 3 affect the sales of the 3DS (i.e. did Nintendo begin to lose profit by people trading in their 3DS systems after the cancellation)?
