So I'm just gonna assume the writer doesn't know what blunt force trauma is. It definitely is not what a shotgun blast is.

Guys, just try the double shotgun in Marathon 2. And the one-hand-reload is just awesome !

Missing from this list: The fully-automatic Commando from Max Payne 1, shredding Aesir goons in glorious bullet-time. The fully-automatic shotgun from GTAV, annihilating ne'er-do-wells and turning their vehicles into swiss cheese. And the stubby semi-autos from Black Ops 1, in dual-weild; that rhythmic "THUD-THUD" just never gets old.
  • kslagle - June 17, 2014 10:34 p.m.

Correction: The Jackhammer from Max Payne 1.

Ya could of given an honorable mention or nod to the Fall Out series & Borderlands series. The best weapon to blast Zombies & catch their brains before they hit the ground was a shotgun. "Braaaaaaaaaaaaains! ...My personal favorite was the corrosive/caustic shotguns. Melt their faces off!
  • Mounce - June 17, 2014 6:19 p.m.

    Max Payne JACKHAMMER.
  • Maverick842 - June 17, 2014 6:31 p.m.

Oh, man, the Jackhammer! I was trying to remember what game that was from!
  • Mounce - June 17, 2014 6:43 p.m.

Nothing like going Slo-mo and using that thing in the game, was heavenly.
  • Ryanorourke1999 - June 17, 2014 5:32 p.m.

Borderlands 2 SWORDSPLOSION was a awesome shotty.
  • Maverick842 - June 17, 2014 3:35 p.m.

    I personally have a soft-spot for UT2003's Flak Cannon.

should have included the auto-shotgun from wolfenstein: the new order. it is simply delightful. put a shot into someones chest at close range and it will punch a hole right through them. and the option shrapnel shells, well, its just absolutely magical. oh, and dont even get me started on dual wielding them. you will never have a better time in your life. emptying 40 shells of pure death in less than ten seconds is pure joy.

MAN you guys missed out on the best shotgun on the entire list! Bioshock 1's! I guarantee if you throw some turtle beach headphones on and take that shotgun with the power upgrade but keep the pump action, to an empty corridor in Rapture and turn the volume up, you will reconsider not putting it on the list. The audio design for that shotgun was the best hands down. Not to mention the special shells you could get for it in the game

You guys missed the shotgun from GTA V!! It is absolutely LETHAL at long range and looks badass when it's carried by Michael or Trevor!! :D
  • GuilhermeHFA - October 29, 2013 6:30 a.m.

What about the shotgin from Resistance 3 that put enemies on fire when leveled up??? it was awesome to kill with it since the begining, but on level 3, blasting enemies while burning at the same time....? EPIC!
  • EdDeRs1 - October 28, 2013 2:22 p.m.

this makes me sad there has never been a good Evil Dead game, after all Bruce Campbell is the man who made shotguns cool, after all, it is his Boomstick
  • mothbanquet - October 26, 2013 6:35 a.m.

    I echo the call for L4D's auto-shotty!!
  • yfbc - October 26, 2013 4:21 a.m.

The original Doom shotgun; what a beast! The one shotgun you have, criminally, missed out from your list is the Combat Shotgun from Fallout 3. Coupled with VATs.... limbs become a distant memory.

I liked using the shotgun and supershotgun in Team Fortress. Nice range, good sound and cool reload animations. Plus getting a kill with it was rewarding in a game where guys spawned with chain guns, flamethrowers and rocket launchers.
  • CitizenWolfie - October 25, 2013 10:39 a.m.

All hail the boomstick! I can still hear the thump of the Duke Nukem shotgun in all its MIDI glory.
  • matt-bailey-kelly - October 25, 2013 4:05 a.m.
