Game: Wizards & Warriors

Song: Title Screen

Composer: David Wise

Above: Title Screen from Wizards & Warriors

As Game Music of the Day rolls on, we inevitably have to touch on certain soundtracks that are obvious choices. Wizards & Warriors may be a defunct franchise today, but any NES player of the '80s remembers this game, partially because of the enchanting title screen song. So yeah, it's a well-tread track for game music nerds, but if you've never listened, now's your chance to be a part of the conversation.

When the game first appeared in 1987, we were still used to simple (but catchy) tunes in games at best, and obnoxious noise at worst. David Wise, on the other hand, knocked another soundtrack out of the park with this one song that suggests, from the moment you turn on the game, that knights, wizards, goblins and who knows what else are about to collide in a battle so epic it's destined for a Frazetta painting. A true treat for those looking for more than beeps and boops.

Above is the flat-out amazing remix from OverClocked ReMix user Bazooie. It's like Daft Punk making sweet love to a ghost cosplaying as a wizard. I love it so much.

For those keeping track, yes this is ANOTHER song from David Wise in a relatively short amount of time. Can't help that his work is so good I wake up beaming with energy, eager to share it with everyone else.

I daresay, Gamesradar, this David Wise chap sure is an intriguing fellow! I heard the OCRemix version first, and I thought it had taken a lot of liberties (it had to, duh). I figured the NES theme would have only one channel. Then I heard the NES theme, and damn was I blown away. To hear that in 199X was pretty dope, I'd imagine.

Great tune, but the OCR mix takes the cake.

Ya'll are on a role with the balling game music! I remember this game and Double Dragon being the two NES games that I would sometimes just leave on the title screen and rock out back in the day. The only drawback to this game's stellar soundtrack is that pain in the ass 'you bout to DIE' music that starts when your health is low. Otherwise NES soundtrack of the year all years.

I still like the near death music because it is to just add words. all you have to do is say "Your gonna die" and it becomes much funnier

That song was really short, I'm somewhat disappointed. I was expecting more. Great song tho!

Another hit from David Wise, this guy has talents. And now a small request. Please take a look at Body Harvest on N64, this underrated game had some amazing music that most people missed.
