Game-culture shit we're sick of constantly hearing about

If you’re so sick of hearing about it, why are you writing about it, GamesRadar? Huh? HUH? Because we enjoy bitching as much as the next person, that’s why, and if complaining about bitching by bitching makes us hypocrites, then we don’t want to be crites.

We’ve written about all of this stuff, sometimes seriously, but usually with a side of snark fin soup, which is how we maintain our nonchalant demeanor. This flippant attitude puts us in a Plexiglas house – it don’t break, but our stones sometimes bounce back and hit us in the groins. Our iron-cupped privates can handle that, so take this, everyone, and us – we’re tired of hearing your, and our, vapid blabbering!

Games totally being art

Roger Ebert is a troll, but he’s right about one thing: we constantly seek validation. There’s no point. Games are what they are, and so are films and paintings. They will be treated differently as they and culture as a whole change. We can affect that change by supporting games which we think are valuable cultural contributions, and that’s what we’ll do.

Above: We’re not going to say it again, but you know…

The debate itself will continue to consist of: “ya but how is art definined lol?” It’s the most tired, unfun gaming debate there is - we’d rather play a Wii party game non-ironically than argue more semantics with trolls.

Digital rights management has been employed by publishers to counteract a culture which is increasingly comfortable with and capable of circumventing payment. Legitimate game purchasers hate DRM because it restricts and sometimes even prevents enjoyment of the games they’ve purchased.

That’s the gist. So, do we all agree that DRM which screws over honest gamers is shit? Good. Do we all agree that the work of game developers has value, and thus piracy shouldn’t be excused? Good. Well damn, it’s a problem that requires some considered thought, and a solution other than, “Piracy is your fault for charging too much for games and making them crappy! Blame everyone but me! Copying isn’t stealing! I heart Valve!”

If you want to offer some considered analysis to the debate (the opposite of what we’re doing right now), then fantastic. If you just want to say “HAY GUYS, DOES EVERYONE ELSE THINK DRM SUCKS?” then have your circlejerk elsewhere… like your basement… with the lights dimmed.

Koreans dying

No really, we don’t like it when people die. Take a break now and then, guys.

New, always horrible t-shirts

We’ve devoted an entire article to these awful creations, which suggests just how much we hate them. Please, don’t wear them, don’t take photos of yourself wearing them and post them and say “GEEK 4 LYFE” or do anything remotely like that. If you really think “Blow Me” is funny, then okay, but we will laugh at you behind your back if we see you in public. Or maybe directly to your face.

You know what's just as annoying as anything on this list? Those damn pull down ads that cover the screen and lag the crap out of a website. This is the new gamesite thing and it's terrible.
  • Howetzer - May 18, 2010 12:50 p.m.

@ Anduin1 - Good call bro. You nailed it. @GR - Im seriously not ever going to try Okami cause I am sick of hearing about it from you guys man, I mean damn let it go guys. You played the game and you think it was great. We get it. The journalism thing I feel requires somekind of other comment from me besides agreeing with Anduin1, but alas my time is short right now, perhaps I will be able to come back later and express what's somewhere inside me, we shall see.

That wedding cake was pretty tight. I think there is a level of professionalism that can go into a product that will allow it to break free from that redundant pop-culture fad perception.

  • Amnesiac - May 16, 2010 5:54 a.m.

@DryvBy Okay...then what IS DRM about? You really think publishers add DRM measures to games just to fuck with consumers for a laugh? C'mon.
  • MrPips - May 16, 2010 4:33 a.m.

I miss DailyRadar more than I miss my testicles.
  • bloodyshadow - May 16, 2010 3:08 a.m.

So.... how mad are you that I made this last year?
  • DryvBy - May 16, 2010 1:50 a.m.

Um, DRM has nothing to do with piracy. If hasn't ever worked, so why would a website like this try and act like it's still about that... idiots.
  • johngrybos - May 16, 2010 1:40 a.m.

    Dude. Motherfuckin' A.
  • Jaybronee - May 16, 2010 1:10 a.m.

No mention of 90% of the game forums that hate MW2 but continue to play it everyday. It's like they're in-the-closet MW2 fans....the game everyone loves to hate. It's like Obama...nobody voted for him but he was elected.
  • shyfonzie - May 16, 2010 12:45 a.m.

Brelston, that is a nice Godzilla shirt.
  • CH3BURASHKA - May 15, 2010 9:04 p.m.

Holy shit, is that really the old Gamesradar??? I'm also tired of Okami references. :)
