First image of Robin in Batman: Arkham City revealed

Best Buy let slip the first real info on Robin’s appearance in Batman: Arkham City last week when advertising pre-orders for the title. Rocksteady was then forced to confirm Robin’s existence in the game, but was quiet on anything more than the Robin in question being Tim Drake. Today the Best Buy site once again beat the developer to the punch by revealing the first ever image of Robin from Arkham City, plus some new details on just how the bonus offer works.

On Best Buy’s pitch for the pre-order, some interesting info can be gleamed. First of all, the Robin in question is definitely Tim Drake (the third hero to go by that alias) as he's carrying Tim"s trademark staff, though it looks like he just came back from bald space marine boot camp. Not only does the pre-order net you access to Robin, but also two additional challenge maps called Black Mask Hideout and Freight Train Escape. And the best news for comic nerds, you also get a Red Robin character skin, which we assume means Tim can wear the costume of his current identity.

Though some of you out there may be tired of all these retailer-exclusive bits of gameplay, rumors around the net say that you’ll get exclusive early access to maps that will be offered to the public later, so people who skip Best Buy should eventually get to play those maps. Hopefully Rocksteady and publisher Warner Bros Interactive will give us something more concrete soon, maybe even  a color image of Robin, instead of one that’s black and white and red all over.

@Mfchimichanga: Yes, that's what I said. It's just not worth the time and effort for them. Or at least that's their logic.

@personamanxx hair looks hard to animate and I don't think it's worth animating just for dlc.

That version of Robin actually looks pretty damn awesome. One of the few times where the "shaved head" look actually looks good.
  • Mfchimichanga - June 21, 2011 4:12 p.m.

@onewingedantista Robin in the comic books is actually pretty badass not like the Adam west robin or the 50s versions. Robin pimped smacked night wing no joke.

    Looks pretty bad ass
  • Fiirestorm21 - June 21, 2011 2:14 p.m.

Actually, for Robin, I don't mind the bald space marine look. It's an improvement.

How many times do I have to say this... Pants have been a part of the Robin costume since the 90's. Robin has never had Bat-Nipples outside of the Schmacher films. And The Robins as characters are vital parts of the Batman Mythos. There's a reason why so many stories and series are titled "Batman and Robin" instead of just "Batman".

This Robin makes Batman look like he's adopting to create an elite group of vigilantes (as opposed to a "PDF file")!
  • masterpanos - June 21, 2011 11:11 a.m.

OMG! He looks like a skinhead natzi!Thats pretty badass because he used to look like a fag
  • Kermit1970 - June 21, 2011 9:07 a.m.

My nephew is the baddest Robin there is
  • Spacegrass - June 21, 2011 5:15 a.m.

I hate Robin, but at least he's wearing pants this time.
  • TheSoftMachine - June 21, 2011 4:54 a.m.

why do developers make preorder bonus deals with best buy. they always blurt out information on the game early. i also hate having different retailers release different preoerder options. as much as anybody (myself included) hates gamestop.... we should just leave it to them.
  • Rubberducky - June 21, 2011 3:26 a.m.

I'm just glad he doesn't look emo :/ Can't wait for this game though, loved AA.
  • Kethmach - June 21, 2011 3:24 a.m.

I think he looks pretty bad ass! I was totally expecting lame Robin- but he looks pretty hard core. That's a side kick to compliment Batman! Cool shit!
  • FauxFurry - June 21, 2011 3:21 a.m.

Not extreme enough. He needs to have the Robin costume and mask tattooed into his skin.
  • Personamanxx - June 21, 2011 2:51 a.m.

The Shaved head is probably to make the Red Robin Skin work better. Also Hair can be tough to animate. So It's laziness at least somewhat.
  • ThatGuyFromTV - June 21, 2011 2:45 a.m.

DAMN. Give him some hair instead of the space marine haircut and it'll be perfect.
  • GringoStar - June 21, 2011 2:18 a.m.

I really would like to see other characters being used for The Challenge Maps. Maybe we can play as Two-Face or being able to play as Bane would be pretty awesome too, in which you only have your venom for so long and have to find places to charge before you're beaten to a pulp!
