Somewhere between apologizing for the PSN outage and gushing over its PS Vita, Sony found time during its E3 presser time to give Digital Extremes's new Star Trek game a brief moment in the E3 spotlight with this 'pre-Alpha' gameplay trailer:
Star Trek stars the young James T. Kirk and Spock from J.J. Abrams's recent cinematic reboot. It is being touted as an “unprecedented co-op experience” which take players through a stand-alone story written by God of War scribe Marianne Krawczyk, with assistance from the famed geeks behind the 2009 Star Trek film, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. Its developer, Digital Extremes (The Darkness I and II) claims to be working with all members of the film franchise to make sure the characters and canon fall in line with Abrams's retooled Star Trek universe.
Sony also announced the game will ship with a Star Trek Phaser attachment for the PlayStation Move, as well as exclusive pre-release PSN content. In a press release today, publisher Paramount Digital Entertaint's executive VP trumped up the PS3 perks, explaining: “Sony’s Move technology and built-in online community make for an unparalleled platform to bring the Trek gaming experience to life. Players will be fully immersed in the co-op action with an authentic Phaser Move controller in hand, and PS3 players will have the first chance to dive in to the adventure with Sony exclusive DLC before the full retail game comes out.”
Star Trek is slated to dock aboard the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC in 2012.
